Yea, it's called empathy. We put ourselves in other people's shoes without thinking. And when I see two guys kissing, I am repulsed because I wouldn't want to do that.

Or maybe it is! I used to have issues with empathy. For ME, it was because I simply had not experienced enough. Empathy is only possible when you can RELATE, meaning you've gone through something similar. Putting yourself outside of your comfort zone will certainly help you in many ways, but specifically it can give you the experience to have empathy for an increasing amount of people and circumstances.

I don't know that I've ever not been capable of empathy or sympathy, but I can very easily ignore it and not actually feel it. It's more of an intellectual empathy.

I did start taking a vitamin B supplement a couple years ago and that really helped me actually feel it. Much harder to ignore now and not sure I want to.

I've never heard of vitamin B having an effect like that! And yea, I think a lot of empathy is intellectual rather than emotional.
