There is so much more that goes into maritime war planning than, "ours shoot further", this isn't fortnite. China's fleet is in a bad spot, that is exactly why they want Taiwan.

Naval warfare is very advanced. I would imagine Taiwan would have a rather larged land based defense system. Shooting is easy, hitting is hard, the further the target the harder it is. Too much time for targets to react/counter.
