I agree with the generic sentiment but you're several years too late. 9/11 happened in 2001 and it all started going downhill after that day. Plus the internet was in full swing well before 2005. Google.com was going full steam and they started back around '98 or something.

I'm guessing you're younger than I am so I would say early to mid 90s was the pinnacle.

The Cosby's ended in '92.

Perfect Strangers ended in '93.

Family Matters was in their heyday (ran from '89 to '97).

Full House was nearing the end ('87 to '95).

Roseanne was killing it too ('88 to '97).

Rock and alternative was at its best. "Gangsta rap" too. Aerosmith's Livin' on the Edge came out in '94. They're not even my favorite band but listen to the lyrics.

The X-Files started in '93!

I named just a few cultural phenomena that media have been desperately trying to replicate since then and have never achieved. It's all repeats and reboots since.

9/11 and the Patriot Act ruined everything! We're still getting checked for bombs in our shoes and can't bring on liquids. We lost the "civil" part when every person, including small children, became equally probable of being a Muslim terrorist as dirty sweaty Muslim men. (I'm speaking in generalities when it comes to profiling likely perps.)

The mask thing will never go away unless we take freedom back.

Early 90's where I was from was a kind of hell on earth - riots, gangsters everywhere, drugs, broken everything, a lot like today actually
