I guess the correct term would be comply rather than resist. Castile didn't comply with the officer. He was reaching around in his car after being told to keep hands on the wheel , and cop knew he had carry permit too (ie; likely armed) . So yeah technically he wasn't resisting, but he sure as fuck wasn't complying.
Yeah, that one is really terrible. Just watched it. This is like a vicious circle. I can't imagine cops aren't on edge around black people, and all of this just makes it worse. There is no amount of redefining terms or accusations of racism that is going to make people forget their survival instinct. Not that this is some excuse, but this shooting, as the others, doesn't indicate any internal prejudice, in my opinion. The cop told him to stop reaching for whatever he was going for, and looks like he just unloaded when the hand disappeared. The reality is, if black people and cops are on edge around each other there is really one solution - the black community needs to stop being associated with criminality, and that only comes with a change in behavior from the black community. That association is not simply pulled out of thin air, and it is not fair to law-abiding black people. But simply declaring it fixed is not going to cut it.
When I went to jail one time I heard from some of the blacks in there that they resist on purpose because if they don’t have drugs on them or an illegal weapon and get released they will look like a snitch or a boot licker and they call it street cred getting sent to jail. Dumbest goddamn reason ever, but that’s how half of them end up getting fatally shot because the cop arresting them is on edge and has a family he wants to go home to. Natural selection.
