Happened to me, sadly. Minus the pain.

So basically just got addicted.

That was many years ago and I've left that life behind but honestly it's weird. I went into addiction a liberal and came out a conservative. Shrug

Lots of recovering addicts experience the same change of view.

Leftism and liberalism are enabling behaviours. If you consider complacency, laziness, entitlement, victimhood-status seeking, and similar behaviours to be "addictions" then it's clear how the liberal or the leftist are enablers.

Once they realize this they then become conservative.
