From up north myself, but totally agree. I think attacking Sumter was an optical mistake - would have been better to truly let it start as a War of Northern Aggression - but the South had every right to secede. That's 100% independent of slavery being an evil institution. Hell, Lincoln himself commented to the effect that he'd allow slavery if it kept the Union together.

It's disgusting to see the erasure/white-washing of US history now and the smearing of everyone who fought for the South. Even anti-slavery authors like Twain are censored now because of things like N___r Jim - who was a noble character given as en example of the wrongs of slavery. Anyway, it's these times - dumb down the history lessons and demonize everyone from the past who didn't live up to your current standards. Ridiculous.
