The Capitol shooting was straight up murder, and I say that as a LEO. There was no imminent risk of death or bodily harm, as evidenced by every other cop there that wasn’t even attempting to stop the people in the hallway. There was one single person climbing through a window that could have easily been apprehended at any time.
I agree, there was no threat. Babbit could have crawled through the window and there would have been 5 men there to arrest her. Instead one of them shot her in the throat.

Curious, as a LEO, what is the punishment if you open fire with civs behind the line of fire? I feel like im the only one who sees this on here, and with the MN incident... people on here are second amendment people yet i dont ever recall anyone criticizing her firing at a perp with two people behind him.
And i agree with you. There was no threat. A 100lb woman climbing thru a window isnt a threat. However a 100 lb homeboy with an active weapon warrant is an absolute threat
Basic firearms safety, as I’m sure you know, says know your target and what’s beyond it.
As a practical matter, her bullet didn’t go off target so there’s not really much to say on it. There are going to be times, unfortunately, when you have to put bullets down range even if there are civilians beyond your target. As a LEO you’re responsible for every round you fire, so if you miss your target and put rounds into something/someone you didn’t intend to, your probably going to have some problems. Maybe not in the criminal sense (although that’s not a certainty in clown world) but civilly you and your department will have some problems.
