Who I voted for and supported over the years has changed, but my principles haven't. I voted for Obama proudly in '08 and rather reluctantly in '12. I kept hoping he was the better option for foreign policy LOL. In 2016 I volunteered for Bernie and supported him until he cucked himself to the cheating Democrats and after supporters were gaslit for months saying there was no cheating even though WikiLeaks emails proved it. My friends say that it was rigged against Bernie, but they seemed to be so fearful of Trump that they thought that supporting Clinton/Biden was a justified evil. I voted Trump as a fuck you to to the Democrat establishment for stealing our democracy and Bernie's presidency (aka the people's presidency, but knowing what I know now I'm happy Bernie was cheated because he didn't stand up for America when it mattered). Democrats were the existential threat to democracy back then. Not Russia. And it sure looks like they still are.
For a while my friends kept trying to call me a Trump supporter for voting for him even though I didn't consider myself a supporter. I asked them to stop saying that because it wasn't true at the time when I asked them to stop. I was repeatedly asked to apologize for voting for him and was constantly sent links. That only made it worse, because every time they sent me a link (like kids in cages) it was soon proven that it wasn't Trump's fault... yet they kept blaming Trump. So I wouldn't apologize and kept refuting their links and it made them angrier and angrier.
Eventually one of my friends started saying that the world would be better if all Trump supporters were dead. I guess he had been in arguments with an uncle or something about politics, so I didn't really take it too seriously at first... but then he kept saying it.
TBH though I don't think my friends changed much. They continued to get their news from establishment sources and establishment social platforms. Perhaps it's a form of elitism or something because they basically won't accept any reality unless the NYT, WaPo, CNN, or other "real sources" publish a story.
The only difference I can see is that these establishment sources have literally been gaslighting, pushing propaganda, and BLM-aligned and similar groups into disconnecting from family & friends e.g. https://archive.is/ZaJaK#selection-755.0-755.219
