I’ve been crushing Duolingo this past year. Refreshing my high school German, while even starting Norwegian (inspiration from the show Lilyhammer). I also have been working through Latin.
I learned French for a bit and let me tell you, the biggest reason to learn a foreign language is the classes have an insane ratio. Had I not been already married... geez...
Learning Spanish was probably the only smart thing I’ve ever done, and the only subject I actually excelled in at school. Everything else was a c or a d, but I always got As in Spanish. It has paid me back 1,000,000,000 fold. No matter what you learn, take it all the way and become proficient at a high and professional level. You can thank me later. Or not....I’ll already feel your gratefulness from thousands of miles away if you actually do it. It’s that powerful believe me.
I’m such a dumbass I didn’t realize what a talent I have for languages until late enough in life that learning a third language is going to be a long shot and 2-3 more is a pipe dream. But if I recognized it at 18-20 years old, I could probably speak a bunch more languages fluently. Instead, fucked around doing shit a lot less useful.
