I don't know why Trump didn't stress this more. He didn't really understand how to use the "never let a crisis go to waste" philosophy to advance a right wing agenda.
The minute they started screeching about Covid, he should have shut all the borders and zeroed out immigration, and just hammered Biden on that. It would take away the taking point of cOvId.
He also could've shut down all BLM rioting with his Stafford Act powers - the POTUS has the ability to quarantine all individuals suspected of being infected of a disease using civilian or military forces. It was the perfect excuse to shut down BLM - use COVID and quarantine all of them.
I think he was worried about his re-election/Legacy as a President at that point, imo. I have mixed feelings on how he handled it myself. I wasn't in his shoes with the info he had at the time, so I hate to pick him apart over it. We are relying on outside sources for our opinion on it really.
