To befair, oxidation, bonding, and electron transfers arent basic. Sure, learning the definition of those words are basic but understanding what is actually happening is far from basic. I guess it would fall under basics for chemical engineering though.

Yeah, the general public thinks "acid = bad", because they don't understand what it is. Vinegar is the best example - you can use it to make salad dressing, or soak pennies in it overnight to get tarnish off them. (have a bunch of tarnished, dingy keys? Throw them in a jar of vinegar overnight.)
