Every race has slavery in its past. No exceptions. P.S. where do people think the word "slave" comes from? What group was first denoted this way? People need to use their heads.

the 13th amendment abolished indentured servitude also, but I think the statute of limitations has long passed

I just know she was on the "orphan train" out west after parents died of diseases. It wasn't uncommon at that time. I think it was called "adoption" but there were papers with stipulations which were in essence the same as indentured servitude. That isn't to say that family was horrible to her, but she had no say in anything and had to be a servant as sort of "payment" for her adoption. It was legally binding.
