Actually the "Latinos" didn't exist until starting about 400-500 years ago. Before that there were just Indios in Mexico, and South America. Unlike the English settlers who brought their wives to the Eastern Sea Board, the Spanish that came to Mexico, and S. America were almost all soldiers. The Spanish screwed anything that moved, and created a race of what is called Metezos which is a mix of Spanish, and Indians to several different degrees. Those remaining Spaniards are referred to as Castilianoes. The Islands of the West Indies which was settled by the English, Dutch, French, Spanish, and even Brazil by Portugal became mostly black from the heavy slave trade (85 %) of the Atlantic trade into those areas.
