I worked in the poorest zip code in the poorest big city for 6 years working with families.
While it could feel overwhelming with the amount of apathy there was at least 20-30% working two jobs or more and no complaining a bit.
I noticed the best kids, regardless of race or poverty, had both a mom and a male figure in their life. It might not be their bio dad, because aside from stereotypes life shit happens to all families (death, divorce, etc) but they had some male family figure looking out for them.
