That is not what happened. There were journalists who heard that there was a roadblock and assumed, and inaccurately reported, that it was an official police roadblock, when it was actually 2 vans parked across the freeway a little distance before the people standing around in the street. Those vans were parked after a blind turn, so someone driving regular highway speed would not have seen the vans blocking his way until the last moment, and he would not have seen the protestors, as they were blocked by vans and dressed in black in the middle of the night. The driver swerved onto the shoulder to avoid the vans, which put him in line with the group of protestors behind them, so he swerved back toward the centre of the freeway, but those two were standing in the middle. He did not accelerate; he was doing everything to avoid hitting them. And he stopped right afterward to call for help, and only drove away when the rest of the crowd started chasing after his car. It was a horrible death, but it was an accident caused by the protestors' lack of planning idiocy, and that driver didn't do anything wrong.
