The driver swerved onto the shoulder to avoid the vans, which put him in line with the group of protestors behind them, so he swerved back toward the centre of the freeway, but those two were standing in the middle. He did not accelerate; he was doing everything to avoid hitting them. And he stopped right afterward to call for help, and only drove away when the rest of the crowd started chasing after his car.
