There's evidence that a true hybrid was made like 50 years ago. This came up in graduate school for me. When I was taught about genetic and how similar human DNA and chimp DNA is, I was also taught that our species are genetically compatible but cannot interbreed because human sperm cannot penetrate chimp eggs. Which begs the question how in the hell did they figure all of that out? The chimera stuff is mostly harmless though. They're trying to make pigs and goats grow human organs so that we can harvest them for transplant. They actually have a pretty good way to keep human cells out of the animals brains too. It's still in the early stages of development though.
It's not a hybrid, it's a chimera. I don't know how the ethics would differ however but I know they've done it with pigs.

Pretty sure they figured that out in Russia when they tried to see if it was possible to make a hybrid in the early 20th.
