We're already in it, but we're not being farmed for energy. The AI has plenty of that. We are being farmed for attention, and we're being farmed for our ability to detect quality, for our ability to identify things (as in, what is in a photograph), and our ability to choose to respond to some things and not others. AI is learning and refining itself to keep our attention and to present us with what we find "interesting". But we are not fed a stream of constantly interesting things, because that becomes predictable and we lose interest. So we are fed things that mildly annoy us most of the time, with brief interludes of relief from the tension. All to keep our attention, because THAT is what we are being farmed for.
