MSM, CDC, and WHO push that number. They want the numbers high. We don't know the ACTUAL number of deaths because the numbers have been substantially padded.

We've all seen the CNN Tech guy admitting they pad the numbers. We know the power the MSM has.
We also know that the CDC has published corrections admitting that not all deaths are from COVID, or Caused By COVID, but that they're often WITH COVID plus comorbidities. The same as how the Flu kills people every year. Often the Flu simply complicates existing conditions such as obesity, existing heart problems, etc. Then these people get the Flu and POOF, they're dead because their bodies can't handle the sickness.
I would bet that COVID isn't actually a distinct virus, but is instead another strain of the Flu. They're simply calling it something else to scare people.
