As a Ukrainian, I must say the past few decades of our countries "independents" have been shameful to our history to say the least.
Some of us know and follow European politics just as closely. Are you currently in Ukraine? Regardless I hope any family you have there doesn't get caught up in any actual conflict.

But all you need to know is that in 2014 the government started shooting civilians yet in the new revised constitution signed after the "revolution" there was no expansion of gun rights for ordinary people. Country is corrupt and cucked any way you wanna put it.
Many Ethnic Russians in Eastern Ukraine want to return to Russia, or have their own country like is what is happening in Donbas. However, this is where Fake News and deliberate dis-info comes in. The Russian State Media is constantly telling the Ethnic Russians that the Ukrainians are Fascist Nazis that want to genocide them. Lots of instances where the Ukrainian Army retakes Separatist land and the Ethnic Russians are surprised that the Ukrainians don't execute their entire family.
What you have to understand is that Russia killed over 10 million Ethnic Ukrainians in the Holodomor. Because of the lack of people they sent masses of Russians to repopulate Ukrainian land. This is where a lot of the animosity comes from.
Well if we look at how incredibly inaccurate the news/polling is in western developed countries then just think of how fake the news/polling is in a ultra corrupt former soviet state. Its true that many people in the east have a favorable view of Russia, however its hard to say to what extent and how much of it has been fueled by fake news.
