Obama/Biden handed Crimea over without so much as a stern talking to so it makes sense Putin would look to take more of Ukraine.
Obama also backed the illegal deposition of the legally elected president of Ukraine. Crimea's take over was more a liberation of Crimean Russians than a hostile invasion.
