Other than DC being automatic Dem every time, what is the reason for not wanting DC to become a state?

111

Dc was and should all ways be a separate entity as no state should have the countries capitol as they will aways get favor

moot if the process was illegal in the first place, such as the district is also in the constitution so no state has favor over the others. Also cant create states from other states, the land should go to Maryland.

15
agave_lime 15 points ago +15 / -0

The democrats have created the most ludicrous borders to admit DC as a state into the union. The DC state boundaries would include all the land except the land which has Federal buildings built upon it. So the land right up to the Capital building would be the State of DC. You take a step off the sidewalk and you're in the Federal District of DC. Now imagine those cutouts for every federal building. Just so stupid.

6
QuranIsToiletPaper 6 points ago +6 / -0

Also cant create states from other states, the land should go to Maryland.

False.

Several states have been created from other states, including Kentucky, Maine, and West Virginia.

However, D.C. is not part of any state, including Maryland. It is the capital city, federal district, and seat of government of the United States.

D.C. proposed statehood considerations:

Population and area:

Two states have a population lower than D.C.: Wyoming and Vermont.

However, D.C. is far smaller in area than any state. D.C.: 68 square miles. Rhode Island: 1,545 square miles.

Constitutionality:

Article I, Section 8, Clause 17:

"[The Congress shall have power] ... To exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may, by Cession of particular States, and the Acceptance of Congress, become the Seat of Government of the United States, and to exercise like Authority over all Places purchased by the Consent of the Legislature of the State in which the Same shall be, for the Erection of Forts, Magazines, Arsenals, dock-Yards, and other needful Buildings;–And ..."

Twenty-Third Amendment:

"Section 1 The District constituting the seat of Government of the United States shall appoint in such manner as the Congress may direct:

A number of electors of President and Vice President equal to the whole number of Senators and Representatives in Congress to which the District would be entitled if it were a State, but in no event more than the least populous State; they shall be in addition to those appointed by the States, but they shall be considered, for the purposes of the election of President and Vice President, to be electors appointed by a State; and they shall meet in the District and perform such duties as provided by the twelfth article of amendment.

Section 2 The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation."

Practicality:

Two more Democrat senators would be guaranteed for the foreseeable future.

Bottom line:

D.C. statehood = unconstitutional without constitutional amendment, and would be possibly permanent takeover of power by Democrats.

The plan is to shrink the federal district to be the Capitol, the Mall and the WH. That is the new DC. The rest becomes its own state. So a better argument is needed. What's interesting is when people start talking about Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, the Marshall Islands, etc. In theory you could have 10 new Democratic senators. That is your 60 vote threshold

-15
NoYoureDeplorable -15 points ago +1 / -16

Yeah, really we should make them states. No taxation without representation, our forefathers died for that right

9
BurtMcGirt 9 points ago +9 / -0

Add them onto Maryland then.

8
nahbruh 8 points ago +9 / -1

If you are a resident of Puerto Rico and only make money from sources within Puerto Rico then you dont have to pay federal taxes. You only pay taxes if you make money from outside PR.

Also our forefathers only expected federal taxes during times of war, not this grotesque monster that has been bastardized into existence through amendments to a once respected document.

Yes and no. They performed crimes, and they blocked our pursuing justice for the crimes. True, the masses did not rise up, but the Dems control Congress, the media, the voting system. We voted for representatives to REPRESENT us. Too many in the Republican party just rolled over and did nothing. Every single one of them that failed to represent their constituents needs to go.

7
Forgotmypass666 7 points ago +7 / -0

The founders didn't declare war on the crown. The elected representatives of the colonies voted to officially break bonds with the crown and be a independent nation. The war was started by the king who refused to accept that and sent his army and navy to regain control of the colonies.

This same road map was actually followed by the south in 1860. The south didn't just start attacking northern military outposts. The elected representatives of the southern states voted to sever the bonds that bound them to the United States. The incoming president didn't like that and sent the US army south to regain control on the region. In this case he succeeded. (I'm not going to get into why)

If there is going to be any kind of revolution in the future it needs to be peaceful and follow that same road map. The elected representatives of "red" states would need to vote and declare independence from the United States. It would then be up to the United States government to allow to departure or to start a war over it.

I say this because it seems to be a common misconception that the founders where a bunch of pissed off civilians with guns who started fighting the British. Military engagements between the colonies and the crown began at the instruction of the elected representatives at the time.

Millions of people rallying to get their voices heard in DC and we were heard! They had to stage a false flag shooting of Ashli Babbitt to silence us for so long.

3
Redpillgirlfrommars 3 points ago +4 / -1

I don’t think that was a false flag. I was in front of the capitol on the 6th. No one even knew about the shooting. Everything continued as normal. The media/politicians lied about the deaths of police officers while never mentioning Babbitt, the one death that was directly related to the capitol breach.

There was no narrative pushed with her death. Nothing. By calling it a false flag, we are failing to hold the shooter accountable and I’m sure the dems are overjoyed with that.

1
Highspergamy 1 point ago +1 / -0

It was definitely not a false flag... you can take my word for it if you want to, or not. The Ashli Babbitt shooting was a false flag narrative, is so dumb...it amazes me and pisses me off how many people embraced it.

-1
Highspergamy -1 points ago +1 / -2

113
Toughsky_Shitsky 113 points ago +117 / -4

Dems understand that politics is war .. and dems fight to WIN. Repugs fight to not be called names.

The dems use all the power they have NOW to move the country left .. they aren't stupid enough to drag out their plans, like repugs do.

That's why we are in the state of shit that we are right now, the dems are winning .. bigly.

25
tabularasa_556 25 points ago +25 / -0

What plans do repubs have on a country level? I don't see anything being dragged out, I don't see anything at all other than their usual submitting legislation that sounds great but only when they're such a minority that it won't even be considered. The only ones who actually do anything are state level or lower.

23
Toughsky_Shitsky 23 points ago +24 / -1

Repeal of 0bamacare, drain the swamp, cut the deficit, reduce the size of gummint, fight illegal invasion .. all national issues promised for years by repugs, and never acted upon.

12
tabularasa_556 12 points ago +12 / -0

That's all exactly what I'm talking about. They do act on those things, but only when they're powerless, or planning to sabotage it like McCain did with bongocare. They have no plans to actually do any of that. The only thing being dragged along is people's hopes.

3
TearofLys 3 points ago +3 / -0

Politics would be politics if Dems didn't approach it as war. However, they do, so we have to respond in kind. I think if we could actually get meaningful election integrity reform, they couldn't be so radical as then they would be more accountable to voters who would likely disagree with such extreme measures.

1
Toughsky_Shitsky 1 point ago +2 / -1

We have all the laws that we need to protect the vote. We lack the will to enforce those laws .. because the left calls anyone willing to enforce the laws "rayciss", and the losers we elect and/or put in place to enforce the laws are fucking pussies.

1
jamesbcrazy 1 point ago +2 / -1

DC already has 3 electoral votes; that would be the one thing that wouldn't change.

1
Farmerbob1 1 point ago +3 / -2

They would get 2 more. DC has no senators right now. States get 2 senators each.

The number of electoral votes for DC would go up by two.

They also have delegates in the House, not full Representatives.

2
jamesbcrazy 2 points ago +2 / -0

Current situation: DC is not a state, but gets 3 electoral votes as an exception to the usual rules.

If DC became a state: They would have 3 electoral votes for their 2 senators + 1 representative.

0
Farmerbob1 0 points ago +1 / -1

Huh. Thought they had 2 currently. You are correct that their electoral count would not change.

The Democrats would still get an extra full vote in the House and two more in the Senate, solidifying the Dem ownership of the House, and flipping the Senate.

COMMUNIST DEMOCRATS WIPE THEIR ASSES WITH THE CONSTITUTION.

PlatinumFMorgan 10 points ago +10 / -0

If following the Constitution still mattered, then DC statehood would require an amendment, ratified by the States.

The State Rock: Crack

The State Animal: Rattus norvegicus

The motto: Semper Stagnum

jsphere256 3 points ago +3 / -0

The motto is just a sucking noise

Robiscore98 8 points ago +8 / -0

Will never happen because they need 2/3 states to do an article V convention

2
BroadSunlitUplands 2 points ago +2 / -0

Articles aren’t absolute.

1
NotableBuffalo 1 point ago +1 / -0

States aren't absolute.

5
Tommyjoe2 5 points ago +5 / -0

The only reason they would be doing this is if they know they are fucked in the next midterm.

ModelMinority 5 points ago +5 / -0

No depths to how low the stupidity of Demorats can sink to.

4
cd3dog 4 points ago +4 / -0

This is blatantly unconstitutional. Just ask the SCOTUS. Oh, wait.

4
barwhack 4 points ago +4 / -0

If it becomes a state, then either the federal government must leave there, or the federal government becomes just another state: no longer federal. The last is fitting our current nonunion.

4
45er 4 points ago +4 / -0

Did nobody take civics class? Are these retards aware why DC isn’t a state?!

4
Btcox 4 points ago +4 / -0

Won't pass senate

4
Klandathu 4 points ago +4 / -0

They’re trying to cow scotus into submission with threats of court packing so they can ram this sort of stuff through.

4
TheMAGAlorian787 4 points ago +4 / -0

They really don’t give two shits about our country or the Constitution. The Democrat Socialists need to go.

4
sustainable_saltmine 4 points ago +4 / -0

the whole point of DC was that it was NEVER supposed to be a state. It was supposed to be a neutral meeting place for the government and reps form each state. No one was supposed to live there year round

3
Redpill-notCommieRed 3 points ago +3 / -0

Is Biden moving the US capital out of DC? Because DC was never to be a state.

3
remember1776 3 points ago +3 / -0

Low IQ faggoty bastards

Heavy_Metal_Patriot 3 points ago +3 / -0

Is it time for SECESSION yet? Or are we going to continue to jack off to "muh GOP 2022" some more?

1
RockyMin 1 point ago +1 / -0

I'm ready! How do we start?

3
LesboPregnancyScare 3 points ago +3 / -0

i thought DC was created as federal property from MD and VA, which gave land to form it. The reasoning is whatever state the federal capital was in could be subject to pressure from the host state, IE: VA doesnt like a new law the federal government is going to pass so they shut off power, or refuse trucks from delivering to grocery stores, or collect higher taxes on that town, or deny public services like road repairs, etc. That was the whole purpose I thought.

I also thought that no new state can be formed from given land from another state.

But what do I know, its just law and now its clown world.

3
ThePatriot_2021 3 points ago +3 / -0

Fuck em. Let them do whatever the fuck they want. Anything that sinks this rotten ship as fast as possible.

3
TheRealPizzaPope 3 points ago +3 / -0

It's time.... you know what I mean...

2
mikethemarine 2 points ago +2 / -0

past time

3
Hoshi 3 points ago +3 / -0

Can't Maryland just reassume DC?

3
ineX0r2 3 points ago +3 / -0

Need less hysteria. This thing will not happen. It's likely just virtue signaling.

2
BropolloCreed 2 points ago +2 / -0

This. Also, technically speaking, the land that was ceded for DC belongs to Maryland.

2
GODwins76 2 points ago +2 / -0

Give yourself statehood. I don't care. Won't save you.

2
MythArcana 2 points ago +2 / -0

So, is Africa next?

2
GuruNemesis 2 points ago +2 / -0

If the people of DC want state representation they should just give the land back to Maryland the same way the other half of DC was given back to Virginia.

Make anywhere people live one of those two states, and the land that nobody lives on, but is the government, DC, so you still have the no one state having the capitol thing.

2
Jmricht 2 points ago +2 / -0

No

2
Razorba1 2 points ago +2 / -0

A state CANNOT BE THE Capital of the United States!

2
RyanUpCreek 2 points ago +2 / -0

Only if they take the cucked Virginia cities surrounding DC. Then Virginia would return to a red state.

1
JetJocky 1 point ago +1 / -0

I'm ready to give those cities to W. Va. or Maryland and pick up some W.Va. land in the deal.

2
Ronpaulblican2 2 points ago +2 / -0

Commies. Every bit of this is communist. Bill Ayers style Ché scumbaggery.

2
Klaus73 2 points ago +2 / -0

snicker don’t worry guys..you’ll win in 2024! (Especially given the dems are already stacking the deck)

2
shadows_of_the_mind 2 points ago +2 / -0

Once again proving the communists have no regard for the constitution. Is this really a surprise to you guys?

2
Buck_Fiden 2 points ago +2 / -0

While they are at it, can they vote to remove my state from the union? It will save them the trouble of having to change the flag.

Except for changing the stripes to be rainbow colors, of course.

2
zerk0021 2 points ago +2 / -0

Does anybody have a link to a GIF that was posted here a while back. WTF was this! WTF was that! as Pepe was turning left and right.

2
jsphere256 2 points ago +2 / -0

this is going nowhere, relax

2
CJ52 2 points ago +2 / -0

So if the succeed we'll have a flag with 13 stripes, 50 stars, and one small shit stain in the corner?

In an age of making a dementia patient president, a cackling hyena vice president, and a mentally Ill cross-dresser a HHS sec..... making D.C. a state is just another botched abortion waiting to happen.

This entire administration is one giant case of explosive diarrhea, and they're using the constitution as t.p. 🤬🖕🤬🖕🤬🖕🤬🖕🤬🖕

2
KeeptheChief 2 points ago +2 / -0

Simple solution. Have Texas split into 5 states per its Constitution.

1
brother_red 1 point ago +1 / -0

It's not in the Texas constitution, it's part of the resolution admitting Texas as a State.

It's legit arguable that this provision is now null.

Besides, Texas has the best shape now anyway.
