The Japanese leadership themselves -- very often the children and grandchildren of previous government elites -- tend to be out of touch with the commoners and see them as a resource to be exploited. Just yesterday another multigenerational politician was heard to say that people should be willing to drink radiation-tainted water from Fukushima that the government-connected power company wants to dump into the ocean. He won't drink it, of course, but the little people should.

Imagine a House and Senate where more than half the members inherited their seats and their voting bases from their parents. That's Japan's political scene.

So the average Japanese person sees a president like Trump who genuinely loves the people he serves and is somewhat envious. Japan doesn't have such politicians, at least not in any positions of power. They were all born with silver spoons in their mouths and expect the public to serve them, not the other way around.
