Screenshots eliminate a lot of context and require the reader to just take the poster's word for it. IMO, screenshots are only useful for material that is likely to be removed.
A better solution is to change the "twitter.com" part of the address to "nitter.cc". That way, people can read the original tweet, see followup tweets if there are any, and see the replies and other data (ratio, etc) without giving twatter any clicks.
Another thought: How about post the link using the "context" option, and an archive or screenshot for the main media display? That allows those who want to track down or verify the orig an easy way to do it, but most will just view the main screenshot or archive link?
For those calling OPs names for twitter links, What about individual choice? What if your anti-twitter strategy, rationale, or conclusion is flawed or too narrowly defined?
This option sounds like a lot of unnecessary fussing that is more easily accomplished through changing it to a nitter address, which would take a fraction of the time and steps and have more functionality. If, for whatever reason, someone wanted to access the link through twitter, that choice is still contained in that post; all they have to do is change the "nitter.cc" part of the address back to twitter.
I also forgot to initially mention that one of the main reasons people link directly to twitter is because they're linking to videos, which screenshots and archives don't work for, but, since nitter is the same front end as twitter (just without twitter's javascript analytics and IP tracking,) it plays the videos well.
There's no one solution for everyone, but, particularly given twitter's behavior as a company, I don't see a reason to unnecessarily give them more traffic and data. Additionally, there's a "glitch" where traffic linked from here usually has to be reloaded 1-4x before allowed access to the post.
Ya I agree it would take some fussing. Ideally posting here would auto-convert and populate the fields to streamline the process, but that's wishful thinking.
One consideration with nitter is that it is not a single domain, but a decentralized list of independent domains, any of which twitter can block.
Yes! Nitter is such a great development; it was set up as a privacy tool, to bypass twatter's javascript and IP tracking, but doubles as a way to view twitter without giving them views.
You either volunteer code or volunteer to code a subsystem to this website, that will accept twitter links that are posted, and turn them into screenshots. A kind of mini archive.org or archive.is type thing for twitter
If enough people demand it, they might sticky it and then the mods might work on it or get someone to work on it.. It's really not that hard
its a line of code to recognize it's a twatter url / link using regex, in any programming language
if it's a twatter link, then you apply the screenshot function / method. there are scraping / archiving libraries that do this already. I recommend python over php/perl/java/nodejs and all the others, because the code is usually higher quality. js has too many astonishing exceptions..you end up learning what breaks more than what works
Yes!!! FUCK TWITTER!!! Hope all these shitty sites crash & burn.
I was only on there for Trump lol. Deleted it back in January I think & shitty Reddit which I was severely addicted to for years & obsessed with. I'm still addicted to electronics now but at least it's not that bullshit.
As much as I would love to see Twitter die, it'll never happen when we have so many people here rationalizing the use of twitter despite the fact that they would love to see us all dead.
You don't have to be logged in to Twitter to read stuff. I don't have an account and have no issues.
Remove Twitter cookies from your browsers and then you should be able to read links without problem. If you are on mobile do NOT use the app as you have to be logged in to read anything. Use a browser instead.
The continued insistence to drive traffic to sites staffed by people that hate us and want us silenced at best and dead at worst is disheartening.
More traffic = more advertising dollars and credibility. Don't give it to them! What the hell is the difficulty understanding this concept?!
VPN + Ad Block.
Good luck with that.
Some people like to read the comments.
Some people are the problem.
Nope.
https://twitter.com/
Stop trying to reason with these old/dumb fucks.
Don't create an account and use an ad blocker. If they can't grasp that then fuck em.

Thank you! I’ve asked a dozen times and never gotten a rea answer lol
Use https://nitter.cc
Better yet use Privacy Redirect browser extension. Redirects all the major socialist media sites to alts like nitter.
Some people like to read the comments. 🤷🏼♂️
You can still view twitter links w/o an account. I deleted mine after Jan 20 so this is what I do now to read any posts on there.
Same. Steak Umm Twitter is worth reading, and I doubt that they would move to Gab.
^ this for the 1000th time. Forcryingoutloud.
Or a archive at least, fuck sake.
Do you part. Join the screenshot army.

I was banned during the 2018 NPC wars

I remember when mods didn’t sticky Twitter links, but then the switch to Patriots.win and mods stopped caring... hmm
things seem to be heading in the wrong direction ever since u/doggo disappeared
Or, even better than a screenshot, an archive link.
How will we change hearts and minds if we don't engage? Honest question.
As much as I would love to see Twitter die, it'll never happen when we have so many people here rationalizing the use of twitter despite the fact that they would love to see us all dead.
People just don't care.
I've been living at the north pole for the past 10 years....what is Twitter?
My browser won't let me see Twitter links, so if you're posting a link, you might as well not post at all
Clear your cookies.
Shills from twitter, salon, etc... post here to get views. I don’t click anything. I just read the comments here.
Views don't relate to money on twitter if you use an ad blocker. Install an ad blocker.

Same with Fakebook...
I have an account my kids set up for me 15 years ago. I check it every four or five years.
Amen, bro, preach it!
BuT iM rEdPiLlINg PeOpLe.
(this is really hard to do with a phone keyboard.)
I disagree.
I've been permanently suspended but i still like to view the tweet for context, comments, etc.
Where else am I gonna own shills. It’s fun. You boycotted are missing out. And boycotts don’t work.
You're not owning anyone.
They are owned when they stop replying which they often do.
anyone who posts twitter should fucking hang themselves
we always call them faggots for it and they never stop
Twitter fags don’t like this, lol
Your faggy boycotts don't work. Twitter stick went up since they banned Trump.
Use an ad blocker and don't create an account.
Now please kindly fuck off.
