I have 2 girls in high school. They told me their friends were disappointed in the very lame parade this year and they banned throwing candy to the kids due to covid concerns.
So we decorated our vehicle and joined at the end of the parade.
We tossed candy to all. Everyone was so happy to see us breaking the rules. Everyone except the principal who tried to stop us half way through.
I told him that my daughter's would never forget I did this, and all the children would never forget that he tried to stop me. I kept going and he called the police on me. I had the girls exit the vehicle to hand out candy by hand to satisfy the law as I was considered to be banned from the actual parade (not that I was never officially signed up). The principal was fuming. I thought he would come through the window at me.
I taught my children a little about civil disobedience and how sometimes it's the right thing to do.
These clown world rules need to go.

If the event took place on a public right of way, the school had no right to restrict legal activities. Such as tossing candy.

That’s a great point considering that our town is full of climate cultists as well that are demanding that the city declare a “climate emergency”. This is a small tourist town that generates negligible greenhouse gasses. The entire town could disappear and it wouldn’t do a fucking thing to reduce CO2 levels.

It isnt always the local leadership that wants to shut stuff down, they get put in a crappy spot. My state has mandated certain things that schools must follow or the state will come in and shut down a lot more. Failure to follow basic demands of the state no matter how stupid can cause local schools to get suspended from the Minnesota State High School League, which means they cant have spring sports, etc... The fact that others were following the request usually means that they had a school meeting and told them why throwing stuff would not be allowed. That principal may be the biggest dink in the world, or he may have just been trying to save spring sports from getting shut down if someone narc'd out the parade. I agree with the sentiment, but sometimes there is more to it.
