I think the best result at this point is hung jury, mistrial, followed by a change of venue and reschedule of the case to be held in January next year. Will take the emotion out of the protests and get everyone time to calm down.
Standard motion made by the defense at the end of any major trial and preserves the issue for appeal. A mistrial can be declared if the jury cannot reach a verdict. This is what I think is going to happen.
