As an engineering major in my last few weeks. I can't tell you how right you are. I like to think that I am intelligent but I know compared to my father (also engineer) I am a fraction of his intelligence.
I know VERY few people under 40 who aren't COMPLETE FUCKING MORONS.
Seriously, zero common sense, a bunch of really retarded world views, and NO ability to use logic or reason to work through why their dumbfuck conclusions are so idiotic. On top of that, they lack most basic life skills, like checking your oil, airing your tire, starting a fire, troubleshooting a small engine, hanging a TV or even a photo.
I got a degree in IT/CompSci but every thing I learned in college was so far obsolete that it did nothing for me in the real world. I learned more in my first year of work than I did in 4 years of college, by far.
An older co worker who became one of my best friends and sadly passed in 2019 was also one of the smartest and most talented people I have ever known and the biggest Trump supporter I ever knew. He had a lot of great lines he gave me over the years but one of the best and truest was "Just because you're educated doesn't mean you're smart" I was in my early twenties and assumed everyone who had higher levels of education than me was smarter than me. When I attended Uni I was shocked and offended at the number of twerps who didn't want to be there. Ingrates. And even more so by the spineless "professors" who graded on a curve to placate the insipid seat warmers so they could keep collecting their parents' money. All my hard work to understand the material meant nothing when people who just showed up were curved up to passing.

I never went to college and I make more than most of my college-educated friends (not the doctors). Shit I make more than my friend that's the dean of a university.
The intelligent ones didn't want to take on life crippling debt and found other ways to become successful without college degrees.
I make a six figure income in IT without any college debt.
All I had to do was get my A+ certification while I was in high school to get into helpdesk once I graduated. then over the years I built a portfolio of powershell and SQL scripts on GitHub showcasing problems I solved and tasks I automated over the years, and it wasn't long before I moved up into application support.
Because the majority of the smart ones bounced early and started actually doing things to further themselves.
