Not OP. Maybe you're right, but when I was researching mRNA gene therapy, they specifically say it's meant to permanently alter DNA. So it does seem to have that capability
mRNA on its own does not have the ability to change your DNA. mRNA is an intermediate between your DNA and making a protein. So basically your DNA has the master instructions for how to make any protein your body needs. mRNA is a copy of how to make one protein that gets send to your cell's ribosomes (protein factories) to make them. But it's (mostly) a one way process. There are some viruses (AIDS) that are called retroviruses which have a special set of enzymes that can reverse their RNA genome into DNA and then insert them into a host cell's genome. There are also DNA viruses (Herpes) that do the same. But mRNA on its own does not have the ability to change your DNA.
