The "no talking to police" thing is what always has me wondering, when people try to claim it's really only a few bad apples, or that most blacks really want to live in peace. If you’ve ever watched The First 48 On A&E, you’ll see that numerous times. Essentially, in a homicide investigation if they can’t get a lead within 48 hours it makes it a lot harder, if not nearly impossible to actually solve the crime
Many times, police get a call for a homicide at a large apartment complex, park, etc. At a time when there is clearly going to be some witnesses who heard or saw something that may point him in the right direction, but once they get on scene and look at the evidence To begin their investigation, they may find that they believe the suspect ran west from the murder scene as an example. So proceed to knock on doors, etc. in that direction of travel And suddenly no one knows what the police are talking about.
It really makes you wonder if that’s the kind of neighborhood they want.

I’m pretty sure cops in my town already do this. I was accosted as a teenager at a popular fried chicken franchise by a crackhead. I saw a cop and described the assailant, I decided to follow behind the cop to see the confrontation. The officer kept driving by the crackhead and didn’t do anything. They have done that for years, particularly in Baltimore after the riots there a few years ago. If they got a call about a crime in progress, sure, they did respond but took their sweet time so by the time they got to said crime scene the suspects are long gone and of course no one in those neighborhoods will talk to the police so all they do is take some pictures write a report and file it and then move onto the next call.
The "no talking to police" thing is what always has me wondering, when people try to claim it's really only a few bad apples, or that most blacks really want to live in peace. Well, if they want to live in safe neighborhoods, why don't they talk to the police and get the gang members put in jail? If they know who's driving around shooting people and won't say, then how can people say they don't want to live in that kind of neighborhood?

Many times, police get a call for a homicide at a large apartment complex, park, etc. At a time when there is clearly going to be some witnesses who heard or saw something that may point him in the right direction, but once they get on scene and look at the evidence To begin their investigation, they may find that they believe the suspect ran west from the murder scene as an example. So proceed to knock on doors, etc. in that direction of travel And suddenly no one knows what the police are talking about.
It really makes you wonder if that’s the kind of neighborhood they want.

I am in a Mexican area and the fear of retaliation is very real. "Snitches get stitches" so the saying goes. They keep their heads down until they can leave the area, but I don't know how the guilt doesn't overcome the fear. There are very public stories about witnesses being harassed and chased out of their homes here. But it isn't only in this area I have seen this behavior.

I’m pretty sure cops in my town already do this. I was accosted as a teenager at a popular fried chicken franchise by a crackhead. I saw a cop and described the assailant, I decided to follow behind the cop to see the confrontation. The officer kept driving by the crackhead and didn’t do anything. He was the only person walking down the sidewalk.
I used to be a security guard and saw this happen all the time. The police get so many calls over transients/homeless and other stupid bullshit that they just go through the motions. Lots of times I saw it where one cop would show up, radio his buddies over and they would just bullshit in the parking lot for like an hour.
And that’s how crime grows. If you crack down on the little things people don’t even question doing a “bigger crime”. There’s obviously a line you don’t need cross (I.e jaywalking when no cars are around). But if I get in trouble for petty theft, breaking into cars, etc then I’m definitely not graduating to GTA, holding up the liquor store, etc.
