I canceled my Dell account over their Georgia election law nonsense. Their terms of service clearly states to write to them to close your account. Had it over a decade before I started building my own computers. They usually had good finance options like 6 months no interest so I kept it for small purchases and it's one of my oldest accounts on my credit history. So I use their own contact us option on the website telling them to close the account because I don't want to do business with companies who interfere with politics. They wrote back saying I needed to call to close the account for my security. I wrote them back to recite their own terms of service to them and notify them they were violating said terms and to close the account. Account was closed. Seems they must have been getting alot of closures if they were trying to keep me with such a lame excuse.

So you opened your account with Dell most likely via the web, but had to write them via snail mail or email in order to close it.
Isn't that a little ridiculous of them to demand this?

Lots of companies do this. They make it very inconvenient to cancel services, and try to force you to get on the phone with their customer retention department.

Not hard to sign up, but hard to leave.

But what alternative exists to PayPal?

Transferwise! Now called Wise. WAY smaller fees. You can even get a debit card with the Borderless account. It's great for traveling as you get the google exchange rate on every purchase and atm withdrawl. Check it out and ditch paypal.

Lists other competitors:

Xoom
Remitly
Western Union
and of course Paypal.

I think they just use the Google rate because it is readily available as an assessible currency database.
I doubt Google gets anything from it at all.

Can confirm. Them using the 'Google' rate just means they use the market rate that you would find if you searched the exchange rate on Google. Just means they don't charge extra to make profit.

Is transferwise a direct replacement for paypal? Ive used them in the past although not in quite a while but for international transfers.

Cool. We really need to start a resource for this stuff though. This could be a very powerful thing.

Let's just assume that this company isn't actually on our side (as a hypothetical). Even if that ended up being the case, or they ended up cucking out later. This could be tremendously powerful if we could just come together on this.

If we all agreed to use these selected based services, and all agreed to cancel membership or otherwise stop using services the moment they did something woke, it would have great, great power.

Imagine if a company knew that if they did anything woke, that thousands or even millions of people would immediately drop them. It's the kind of thing that could not be ignored.

Wtf? PayPal is obsolete technology, a middle man that provides zero value. Bitcoin was created to be censorship resistant. Bitcoin transactions can not be frozen (like PayPal & banks do) or seized (like governments do). Bitcoin is the first global payment system accessible to EVERYONE on the entire planet. It’s the equivalent to the discovery of fire, and that’s no exaggeration. There are no capital controls because bitcoin is everywhere there is internet. Why people on this forum keep asking this question blows my mind.

Bitcoin is still pretty inconvenient for transfers because it fluctuates so much and so quickly that sending someone money infrequently may mean some of the value of the money gets lost, with the value of Bitcoin going down mid-transfer, or before you can convert Bitcoin to cash on the other end. Crypto that's actually tied down to something other than processing power would be better. Something stable.

VoteCyborgTrump2040 1 point ago +1 / -0

This is true. And also many places do not accept bitcoin, but do accept paypal payments.

I agree that crypto has potential, but it's got some hurdles to jump over.

First, there needs to be some kind of backing for it to work. Bitcoin fluctuates like crazy because people day-trade it like a stock on crack. BAT on the other hand does not fluctuate as much, because you don't mine it per se. It's generated from viewing ads. It's natural decentralized and distributed between people. Despite being decentralized, there are still people with warehouses full of ASICs who exert much more control over the value of Bitcoin than you or I ever could.

It doesn't have to be BAT, but something that has it's value at least somewhat tied down would be more stable. If you can make the value of a cryptocurrency stable in the long term, more people will be likely to adopt it.

Let me know when I can pay my taxes in Bitcoin.

1
Jewsacky 1 point ago +1 / -0

You can convert bitcoin to dollars anytime you want. Dollars will continue to lose purchasing power, and BTC will continue to rise vs dollars. It’s a no brainer.

Is venmo a thing?

The misspellings and terrible grammar don't help get your message across. Would've been better to simply say "I don't agree with PayPal's recent politically biased actions, and choose to support a platform that is politically neutral."

The instant this guy read "Paypal supports extremely liberals causes," he probably just chucked this is the trashbin.

The difference is "I support political neutrality" versus "you're liberals". The former has a better chance of being passed on as user feedback. The latter just gets you branded a "stupid conservative".

I don't agree. The impact is exactly the same.

Yea but you're missing the math.

Deep State controls the System. Deep State goes up to the System, tells them "Say anti-people shit, do this and that." You know, take political stances that no business would ever take because it costs them money.

The Deep State is willing to go up to every single piece of the system to drive your dumbass nuts. They're driving you nuts because you're not realizing its them behind the shadows fucking with you, using shit you're dependant on for LIFE, to mess with your head. If the Toilet Paper companies just enmasse say politics, you gonna stop wiping your ass? The Deep State would LAUGH at you as you spin in circles wondering what to do!

But yea. I think there's ANOTHER way than banning anyone that says something bad.
