From the article - A UCLA study revealed that 60% of students eventually abandon their STEM majors.

Yup. Because of grade inflation, kids have serious delusions of competence. When they get into a STEM major, many bomb. Their egos can't handle it because the ones that go straight to college are the "smart" ones. Many of them not only quit STEM, they quit school altogether. Government schools are so fraudulent they only provide the thinnest veneer of confidence and the kids have zero resilience because they've never been allowed to fail. Seen it soooo many times. That's why I'm trying to talk them out of committing huge sums of money on Day 1.

This is true. It is no kindness to lull the average, the addled, the lazy, and the downright stupid into believing that they can achieve anything.

And it robs smart and hard working students. Teachers waste time and energy either controlling or tutoring the ne'er do wells.

If you can't do basics well by high school why waste time in college. Stop tryna be smart if you are have average intellect . LEARN A TRADE. Stop pretending!!!!!

Agree. I'm trying to get the parents who aren't sure about college to understand the underlying problems. Like it or not, kids have been told they have to go for 13 years. I can't just beat them over the head with "don't go" because they won't hear that.
