While true, that foregrip means it's still an sbr

5
MacManus 5 points ago +5 / -0

What foregrip? I see a mag well but no foregrip. I’m not saying some libtard would claim you could hold the front, thus making it a foregrip, but you could do the same to an AR, or any firearm with a forward mag well, and no one has argued that’s a grip on an AR.

Though, I’ve never accused leftists of being rational...

Guns are nice but pretty obsolete. The real shit will be drones. That were you should focus. Programming, practicing with paint balls or whatever non-lethal available. No need for permits.

ISIS already used them successfully. The same with Israelis with Palestinians.

You can do unbelievable stuff with spy drones and armed drone formations and we are still basically at level of WWI biplanes with them.

Imagine 30 sting beetle like drones coming after you, each of a size of very small bird and real fast, aiming at your head or torso with a small cannon, shooting at you at very close range. You'll dead before you even manage to raise your nice AR-15.

10
icockmyglock 10 points ago +10 / -0

The real shit will be drones. That were you should focus. Programming, practicing with paint balls or whatever non-lethal available.

Drones have their place, but if you're in the position of need to use them offensively you'll never be allowed to do so. The feds own the airwaves and will jam any areas of interest with ease.

If you want to focus on drones focus on anti-drone technologies and developing defenses against them.

No need for permits.

That depends. If you want a drone with any useful payload or useful range you're going to exceed hobbyist weights pushing you into FAA regulatory territory which will require you to get a license. I was into drones a few years before the FAA muscled into the game. The market was so vibrant and diverse. Huge cheap drones were available for sale. There was an active community working on developing civilian open source technologies for long range drone flights. After the FAA entered the game and the subsequent hysteria the news media drummed up over drones it became impossible to fly drones anywhere without being harassed about it. Even in empty parks the cops would drive by and tell you to beat it. So, I gave it up. Now when you look at the hobby shops the drone sections are a pittance of what they used to be. The big drones can be found, but they're a lot more expensive and rare.

4
VonTyger 4 points ago +4 / -0

Yeah, no off new to the poster above you but it's sort of like that "all you need is boot action sniper rifles" argument, which always ignores how snipers usually have spotters with automatic rifles.

3
WarViper1337 3 points ago +3 / -0

Ahh so that's what happened. I recently looked into buying a drone to get back into the hobby and I noticed the selection of drones had reduced significantly. I remember several years ago all kinds of cool drone concepts and companies all over the market and now they are all gone.

2
icockmyglock 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yeah, the FAA really came down the drone market by way of regulating how hobbyists could fly drones. Anything over a quarter of a kilogram, just over half a pound, requires a remote ID transmitter which means they have to be registered. For hobbyists, they have to take a safety course and test and carry proof. Can't operate above 400 ft. Have to notify local ATC if you're in a 5 mile radius of an airport. Must maintain line of sight.

That all put a halt to the more interesting stuff that was going on in the drone market pre-FAA involvement: remote piloting, long distance FPV, etc.

You can do it, but you'll have to acquire a remote pilot's certification from part 107.

On behalf of most of us, price is unfortunately a factor.

4
SleepWoker 4 points ago +4 / -0

So....I don't know what to say to this post. I'm an experienced personal drone pilot (race and otherwise). Unless you toss down some seriously expensive equipment at a VERY large scale, you can't carry crap with a drone. A bird sized drone (I'm thinking finch not condor) couldn't carry enough semtex to take out a kitten. There's no "cannon" option here. Maybe you could fly a tiny ass grenade through someone's window with a big one.

Example: My current camera drone (given, my 6" acro with a beefy battery could probably carry more but they're a pretty steep learning curve) has a 4 ounce payload. 4 ounces. And it's a nice ass drone. Not inspire level, but attainable.

Oh, also, unless you're blowing up the drone, you need stabilization to aim a "cannon". Well...a normal person would. We don't have military grade drones available to us with the millions of dollars of equipment and infrastructure you need to make them do anything. And if you could make a gun work on a consumer grade drone, it would have to be really small. That means light weight. That means close range. A stabilized drone is like 6 inches across minimum. That's "candy from a baby" territory with an AR15. I'll take my chances.

You may mean well, but consumer (and realistic) drones are not like the movies. No one is flying a DJI 4 feet above someone's head without people having to shout over the propellor noise, no matter what mission impossible may tell you.

Drone ARE the future but we've got a way to go before guns lose their place.

Edit: Sweet Gun btw😉

Three things:

  1. Drones aren't just the helo type running on turbines. Drones also include designs that use wings for lift and other types of propulsion like quick burn rockets. You can carry enough to kill with a properly designed wing surface, even using cheap quick burn rocket engines.

  2. With proper tech you can relay information to other drones that aren't carrying video tech. So you can minimize payload by creating a hive system that separates it's senses and communicates rapidly.

  3. In warfare you don't have to kill your enemy. Maiming is more effective against humans. Lasers can be installed to blind enemies from distance. Bright burning phosphorus can be added to small projectiles to burn and scar combatants and instill fear of drone tech for future use. Also, wounding just one person can take as many as 3 others out of the fight. 1 cheap drone (cheap by military standards) takes out 2-4 people and instills psychological trauma + fear; that's a steal.

Drones are something the modern military is going to have to deal with.

1
SleepWoker 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yeah wing drones are nice. They're also pretty expensive and not super easy to fly. And sure, a theoretical mesh network of drones is possible. But damn son...that's seriously advanced stuff. Well beyond the capabilities of almost anyone. And yes, obviously taking someone out completely isn't necessary. BUT, the point was, the original post said guns were outdated. That's categorically false. Drones are not nothing. If I hit you with a camera drone or an airplane at max speed, I could definitely kill you. But that's $500 a pop. Bullets, even expensive ones, go really far and cost a buck.

1
Father 1 point ago +1 / -0

Not easy to fly for a human. For a processing chip that can take 10,000 adjustments in the span of a second, not really.

$500 at Consumer prices. You're in a Civi mindset, not an "I can print free money" Overlord mindset. When you buy those parts in massive bulk military purchases it will bring it down considerably.

Even at $500 a pop that's a steal. The government looks at an enemy engagement on terms of time and resources versus return. If you can pay $2000 and knock out 4 crucial leaders on the enemies side that creates disorder, shuts down communication, and command structure that's much cheaper than losing a few soldiers who cost your $250,000 each to arm and train. This is why they like to measure the combat effectiveness of fighter jets 1:3 or 1:72 K/D ratio. How much do I have to pay to invade and control an area?

As you said, just attaching heavy sharp weights with wings a guidance system that a mothership drone or regular play could drop from the air is enough to kill most people. It doesn't have to be high-tech to work well.

1
Father 1 point ago +1 / -0

Got another thought for you, SleepWoker.

We haven't even touched full concert Military Operations. There will be a time when all the appendages of war are connected and orchestrated like one being. Much like what can occur in a simulated battle environment or as we in the biz like to call "a video game."

Can you imagine fighting a complete total-war machine that has measured and tested the responses of millions of humans in near war-like interactions?

Look at the efficiency Google and Apply has crafted just watching our interactions via the internet and our phones. How efficient could a death dealer become with the same data?

What kind of bunny-hopping horrors would be unleashed if DoD decided to upload the best CounterStrike players search and destroy patterns into a back-flipping Boston Dynamics weapons platform?

1
SleepWoker 1 point ago +1 / -0

.....wow this kind of went off the rails. And I agree with you. Everything eventually catches up to the technological capability with the exception of the majority of people's own ability to think. That always regresses.

I fully agree in the value of drones. I think that drone warfare is the future of warfare. And I think they're getting smarter and smarter and better and better all the time. I also don't think guns are going anywhere

It's like the "learn to code" argument. Most people, no matter how easy it becomes, will not be effective drone pilots and cannot easily utilize drones either defensively or offensively. And that's end users. The stuff you're talking about, while definitely possible, requires a ton of talent and skill above and beyond your standard drone pilot. Im not disagreeing with the possibility though. Just that guns are easy, drones are not. That may (certainly will) change.

Drones good. Guns good. I like both and support freedom and research in both fields!

1
Father 1 point ago +1 / -0

Off the rails? It seems like the intended course of conversation. The next step after "you don't need an AR-15 to hunt" is "you don't need a fleet of attack drones to hunt."

We both know the 2A is for defense against tyrannical government. So, yes; we do need fleets of privately owned weaponized drones to hunt. Hunt Tyrannical A$$holes bent on taking our God given rights and property.

Lest we forget. The fathers of this country owned and operated cannons, puckle-guns and Battleships; the highest and most deadly weapons of their day. They don't want us to own the equivalent of a Brown Bess; something no where near the same equivalent.

Our future/current weapons include pain+panic inducing sound waves, blinding + burning lasers, anti-gravitation transportation, visual/sound/radar/heat stealth, AI drone fleets, armored Anti-personnel robotic weapons platforms, self guided bullets, rail-guns, flexible body armor, power-suits...etc. These will not be available "for hunting" unless we ensure our 2A stays intact. If we don't our AR-15s won't be that effective.

For about half of that, you can get a Kel-Tec RDB-S.

The only thing to watch out for is that there was a batch with short firing pins. If you get one and it gives you fail-to-fire errors, email Kel-Tec and they'll send you a replacement firing pin that is a half millimeter longer.

They make other versions. The -S survival model is super compact - the absolute minimum dimensions for sale as a regular rifle, and it weighs less than 6 pounds. The other versions are slightly larger and heavier and have things like longer barrels, pistol grips, accessory foregrips, etc.

2
MAGAwaffen 2 points ago +2 / -0

on a gunday thread recommending kel-tecs? for real? they're like the exotic mall ninja knives that look great mounted next to your shuriken and anime posters, and then fall apart the second you actually use them.

2
kjj9 2 points ago +2 / -0

I've put a few hundred rounds through mine with no problems. Most of the youtube reviews are of the "glowing" variety, for good reason.

I got mine as a trunk gun. I don't expect to ever use it that way, but if the need ever arises, I have no doubts about relying on it. I wasn't so sure at first, when it was doing light strikes on my milsurp ammo, but that turned out to be a known problem with the firing pin

I'm a volunteer RSO a few times a year at the local range, so whenever I'm working, I pull it out and empty the magazine into the steel plate at 100 yards. Ever since I replaced the firing pin, zero malfunctions.

1
WarViper1337 1 point ago +1 / -0

Keltecs quality has significantly improved in recent years. The RDB and SU16 are extremely lightweight for their price range and they perform quite well.

I was sold on these. I had plans of getting it SBR’d. Had a Glock 21 to match. It was a beautiful combination. Only problem is, couldn’t get the fucker to shoot bullets. Last time I checked, this was the point. Went back to the factory four times and after that, I just gave up and sold it.

The rounds would fall out of it in all different types of directions some would just tumble out of the ejector port, some would fly 5 feet to the right, others would fly 5 feet to the left. Gun is an absolute mess.

I got a zenith MP5 type pcc and love it. Now that is some smooth shooting.

All that said, congrats to the OP if you were having luck with that gun.
