One of the smartest kids in my school was from the worst neighborhood in the county. He was brilliant, took accelerated classes and graduated ahead of his class. Kinda of debunks their theory

AliBaba40Thieves 30 points ago +30 / -0

As a gifted kid from a poor family, seriously we were below the poverty line my entire time from K-12th, I feel for kids like him with things going on now.

If you have a smart kid in school, they should be pushed and allowed to excel, not brought down to the level of those around them. At the same time, those same schools need to focus on getting those in the lower 1/3 better educated, and not bring down those in the middle. There will always be kids who don't want to learn, and those with crappy parents that don't help out. They should focus on helping those kids with crappy parents who are wanting to learn.

Virginia's DoE bullshit would have forced someone like Dr Ben Carson to take remedial math with his fellow classmates until college. Fucking bullshit.

Not really. It’s basically a tacit admission blacks and other minority groups simply can’t be raised up to achieve what Jews, Asians, Indians, and whites can accomplish. Thus we must be cut down to size.

In reality the powers that he don’t want intelligent people, they want proles who pump out value such that they can leech upon them relentlessly.

BloodyWolf 6 points ago +6 / -0

Yeah, why are we limiting ourselves to what the stupid can do?

5
Gyrfalcon 5 points ago +5 / -0

Because the stupid vote demon-krat.

3
GeoG85 3 points ago +3 / -0

The forefathers weren't THAT off with the whole "only white, male, land owners can vote". Wonder what pussy hat wearing shit THEY went through to come up with the ORIGINAL?

2
BloodyWolf 2 points ago +2 / -0

To be honest, it actually isn't a bad idea. Give people something to work for, like acquiring property to vote -- or passing a test -- rather than it be automatic.

-1
lawlady1776 -1 points ago +5 / -6

Correct. Those programs cost money and certification to maintain. The "privilege" is that parents can hire tutors if they want their kids to have accelerated classes to match their intelligence. What it does is eliminate what the school thinks is disparity and that the classes create to them a second class students. So it "feels" discriminatory. But seriously, they want to get rid of them due to cost on the schools and colleges missing those students because they can CLEP out of that class. They use the altruistic/racism route because it's convenient.

Holding back our best and brightest in the name of social justice is unforgivable. That's another policy that China is squeezing our corrupt government to implement. If you can't see why our rival nation is trying to collectively dumb down our populace then you are clueless.

America needs to turn China into the world's biggest hole in the ground.

I went to a high school in the ghetto where 5 towns all sent their students to this high school and paid over $20k per student as 'sending fees' - freshman class was 1,600 people, 85% black, graduating class was under 400 people, 80% white. If you could get good enough grades to get into AP classes, you didn't have to endure being in classes with 4/5ths of the students being ignorant asshole ghetto idiots who spent all their time disrupting class and trying to start fights.

1
Greyhound69 1 point ago +1 / -0

yes!! The education is there even in the worst schools. it's not the teachers it's not the system. kids today actively resist being educated. the power has been transferred to the kids... what do kids do? as little as they can get away with!! hence the lowered and still lowering expectations.... not that traditional education is the goal anymore.

Harrison Bergeron.

Notice that leftist word 'must demanding his way.

19
Rockonanon 19 points ago +19 / -0

Harrison Bergeron. This was my first thought too. The nightmares of science fiction are all coming to life here in the 21st century. How could anyone support a policy like this?!? WTF is wrong with people?!?

18
phandaal 18 points ago +18 / -0

The thing you should know by now is all those old stories were written based on observations the authors made in their own lives.

Harrison Bergeron, Atlas Shrugged, 1984, all were fictionalized versions of things the authors saw happening with their own eyes.

And because history repeats itself, the things that were written about once can happen again.

11
chickensoup 11 points ago +11 / -0

They want power.

Notice in Harrison Bergeron, everyone obeys.

In V for Vendetta, a prime mover clears the way

This policy was made by educators that haven't read that book and most likely haven't even heard of it. I was an educator and still work in education. The first time I heard another teacher say "LieBarry" I knew it was over :( .

6
Rockonanon 6 points ago +6 / -0

OMG "LieBarry" LOL!

5

For those who've not seen the movie... I saw it as a ten yr old kid, and it f'ed with me. It's really well done. Stars Sean Astin (the kid from Rudy, aka the leader of the gang of kids in Goonies).

“According to this argument, the respectful treatment of all marginalized groups may be a slippery slope, as “Harrison Bergeron” suggests. If we begin with the equal treatment of male athletes and their weaker female counterparts, for example, we may end with the insistence that ugly people should be treated as if they are beautiful, and so forth.”

The absolute hubris of the education system to infer that THEY are the ones bestowing intelligence upon children not that the the children themselves are naturally intelligent. Wow. I'd say the education "industry" needs to read more books.

18
Mamapedia 18 points ago +18 / -0

The education system not only fails to help kids grow intellectually, it actually damages them by short circuiting the innate developing reasoning abilities of kids. Makes me sick to think about it.

22
ZhaoBaiDeng 22 points ago +22 / -0

Went to magnet school. Minorities did fine in advanced classes and passed them.

Had to let in a # of "neighborhood" kids. They overturned lunch tables and failed out on the regular.

Equity just means catering to the lowest common denominator and dragging everyone down in the process.

Humans are doomed to become extinct if shit like this is allowed to continue.

Our sun keeps getting hotter which makes the planet get hotter. Eventually the Earth will be too hot for humans to survive on Earth.

Or maybe an asteroid will wipe out all life on Earth before that.

My point is as long as we keep catering to those lagging behind due to disabilities or inabilities we as a species will be stuck on this planet and doomed to become extinct.}

We always scrap scientific funding to fund domestic programs which try to solve problems which will always exist if we keep doing what our society is doing.

Let's reach for the stars for the sake of humanity.

Egyptians look at the pyramids every day as a reminder of what they lost. Soon we’ll look at DC and Mount Rushmore the same. Wondering how we built such massive monuments when we’ll have forgotten it all.

Seems like a good segue into a little poetry:

I met a traveler from an antique land, Who said—“Two vast and trunk-less legs of stone Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand, Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown, And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command, Tell that its sculptor well those passions read Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things, The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed; And on the pedestal, these words appear: My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings; Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair! Nothing beside remains. Round the decay Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare The lone and level sands stretch far away.”

Imagine replacing math with music and claiming it's unfair to cultivate a child's musical ability because others don't have it.

Under this theory, aren't gen ed classes exclusionary because speds and autists like us arent privileged like the normies? Special Education for all!

"Harrison Bergeron, age fourteen," she said in a grackle squawk, "has just escaped from jail, where he was held on suspicion of plotting to overthrow the government. He is a genius and an athlete, is under-handicapped, and should be regarded as extremely dangerous."

13
TheNotSoEvilEngineer 13 points ago +13 / -0

It's going to be very easy for a break away civilization to gobble up our best and brightest and just leave humanity in the dust. We've hindered the best to cater to the worst. That's completely the opposite of what we need to do in order to progress as a civilization.

I expect Mars to outpace Earth very quickly.

6
Liberty4All 6 points ago +6 / -0

Mars will be a tough life for the first colonists. Everyone will have to pull their own weight. They won't be able to have "diversity hires" if they want to survive.

So I think you're right - Mars will develop as some form of meritocracy out of sheer necessity, and rapidly outstrip Earth.

Then Martians will want independence as soon as they can be self-sufficient, because Earth's stupid rules and burreaucracy will be constantly getting in the way. Earth will object, of course.

My crystal ball doesn't tell me anything after that, though.

3
tabularasa_556 3 points ago +3 / -0

They won't be able to have "diversity hires" if they want to survive.

That's the natural state of things, how is it tough to not go out of your way to hire idiots because they're "diverse"?

So, this is what communism looks like. Another page in the communist playbook. Occupy and destroy public education. Clearly the rationale used to limit educational opportunity to bright students is insane. What will Virginians do about it? Nothing?

13
residue69 13 points ago +13 / -0

Even communists pick out the talented ones while sending the rest to make only left shoes. This is something worse.

8

4
TNVol 4 points ago +4 / -0

Today's gifted programs are actually teaching the curriculum we learned in normal classes 50 years ago.

Schools have been dumbed down by mainstreaming, etc. THAT MUCH.

AP courses are used today by parents so they can get their "normal" kids out of the regular classroom filled with the not-allowed-to-fail dregs, BD kids, etc.

4
SteelMongoose 4 points ago +4 / -0

Federal law? Has this guy been asleep for the last six months? This needs to be fixed by large crowds of furious citizens. Virginians should be flooding into school board meetings and descending on every office with the word "Education" hanging over the door.

Americans in general need to stop looking for the right number to call. They need to be physically present where their petty tyrants can see them.

4
EsotericRefuse 4 points ago +4 / -0

Complaining about whites losing something is pissing into the wind. Use their words to and turn their narrative around, "Racist Virginia Deptartment of Education Moves to Disqualify People of Color from STEM Degrees and Careers."

4
PodunkTexas 4 points ago +4 / -0

If that is the case then we don't have to pay the teachers a high salary. They can get paid what the janitor makes just to keep it equitable.

4

My school district will not open full time because some of the schools have smaller classrooms and cannot fit the three foot rule inside. My daughter should be in school right now. Her school Has huge classrooms. This mindset is everywhere.

2
coffee_grdr 2 points ago +2 / -0

you don't have to be "gifted" to be good at math, you just need to be open-minded to it.

its hard, but no harder for a child to pick up than a musical instrument, a video game or a second language.

2

What kills me is that I am a VA native, and the state is perhaps the most flipped state over the past 20 years. All due to the growth around the DC swamp. The rest of the state, withstanding a handful of small blue cities is red and traditionally valued. Northern Virginia has become a cancer on the rest of the great state.

We have one of the best public school systems in the nation, and these idiots want to ruin that in the name of "equity." Fuck equity, EQUALITY is what matters

2
bidenrapeskids 2 points ago +2 / -0

Why do retards always have the same kneejerk reaction to get the federal govt involved?

Why not just let the state go bankrupt over its insane rules and retardation?

Or perhaps why not get sue the fuck out of the individuals in that state? Remove them etc?

But so many times people call the federal govt to be their savior - so pathetic

1

Defund public schools. They have nothing to offer but lies, deviance, and brainwashing.

1
godgoldnguns 1 point ago +1 / -0

I inquired with multiple university admissions departments asking about their reaction to this. There are really only three alternatives, remedial courses prior to admission, remedial courses as part of their degree program, or they are watering down their degree requirements. Haven't gotten any responses yet.

This is yet another reason to home school to keep your options open.

I smell an interesting business activity in Virginia; Tutoring accelerated classes. Think Uber or Lyft but for education. Shoot, today, you could do that tutoring over Zoom or Webex.

I would think you could keep an hourly rate low enough to appeal to even working and middle class families fairly easily if you could get more than a handful of clients.
