Those fucking sign language assholes taking up Half the screen.

I'd ban that shit and tell people it's called SUBTITLES you stupid shits.

Besides, Biden is a faggot and will totally want to fuck things up further.

Fake Heckler, all scripted bullshit.

I say the same thing. The overly exaggerated sign-language retards are just another virtue signal.

The overly exaggerated thing is just how people sign, because they can't apply tone or volume for obvious reasons. So they wave their hands around and grimace like maniacs instead.

But yeah, having them on a TV broadcast like that is and always has been a faggoty liberal virtue signal.

I had someone on here argue that ASL is a totally different language so they need those people. I'm like.... do you seriously think anyone who knows ASL can't read English?

If a deaf- blind person buys a television they make poor decisions.

10
BroRuins 10 points ago +10 / -0

It's ASL. Unless you do a bump, no one would be able to keep up signing English.

The Biden stutter would give you time to catch up tho.

NazisWereSocialist 57 points ago +57 / -0

For real why the fuck do we pay for that when we could just subtitle

61
AdmrlNelson 61 points ago +61 / -0

Have you ever tried to spell 'trunalimunumaprzure'? It's hard, man!

24
HuggableBear 24 points ago +24 / -0

Have you ever tried to sign it?

Caution - may cause seizures.

Sadly, that's why there's typically a new signer for each speech. Their fingers never quite recover from Biden's incoherent rambling. They deserve a metal.

Because some deaf people can't read English and are not incentivized to learn to read English, despite it being the main way to for them to communicate with the hearing world.

Just a hunch, but its basically an identity politics thing. Sign language doesn't have proper grammar and there's a disconnect between ASL and English, but rather than help those that don't understand both connect the two, the angsty deaf liberals push "feel good" shit into them and convince them there's nothing wrong with them, which pushes them farther from being able to communicate easily. This makes them victims and... we all know how that goes.

Granted, this is a minority of deaf people, but we live in the world where we cater to 1% of population.

conservativeyuppie 13 points ago +13 / -0

This is very true, I took a disability studies (yes, that's a thing) class in college and a lot of deaf people have made being deaf the central part of their identity to the point that they attack other deaf people (particularly parents of deaf children) for getting cochlear implants since it's "rejecting their deaf culture and identity" 🙄 similar to a black girl bleaching her skin and relaxing her hair to try to be more white. These people are nutcases.

7
ApprenticeParty 7 points ago +7 / -0

It really is - We're at a point where if deafness could be "Cured" they'd riot and suggest there is nothing wrong with them, much like how they are with cochlear implants. They really are nutcases.

1
CloakAndDagger 1 point ago +1 / -0

Just like in the manga "I hear the sunspot" (Hidamari ga kikoeru) where the born-deaf guy threw a fit when he eas told that a hard-hearing guy wanted to get cochlear implants.

But Spanish speaking countries have their own sign languages, someone who can't read English probably can't sign it either.

8
_Sully_ 8 points ago +8 / -0

I've been around people who do sign language interpretation as a job. My impression is that staying on top of the language is a constant task especially for non-everyday things like fuckin' politics. So that means they'd have to just spell shit out constantly and believe me most aren't ace spellers. So if what that other commenter is saying is true then what people are getting is a bunch of horribly misspelled nonsense trying to keep up with a bumbling idiot struggling to make coherent sentences. It likely helps almost no one.

On a side note, do you remember that sign language interpreter that didn't actually know how to sign and just winged it? That was hilarious.

BroRuins 6 points ago +6 / -0

This is actually the opposite, the American Sign Language grammar is nowhere near English grammar. There is such a thing as Signed English, which follows traditional English grammar rules, but most communicate using ASL. Look into it, there's a lot more to it than what you think.

I have family that knows Spanish Sign, and again, it doesn't work the same as "written" language at all.

Sorry if you can't fucking read you shouldn't be allowed to vote. I will always stand by that statement

6
BlaineBug 6 points ago +6 / -0

How do they read, write, and graduate public school without reading english? Are their written tests in sign language?

4
ApprenticeParty 4 points ago +4 / -0

A lot of them don't. They'll still get a full ride to Gallaudet though, and you're paying for it according to Joe Biden's weird spending plans though.

2
JonBonMuthafuknJovi 2 points ago +2 / -0

Forget learn to code. Just learn to sign. I bet some of these signers can get some juicy gigs.

2
ApprenticeParty 2 points ago +2 / -0

They very much are. Many are six figures.

RedAltoids 1 point ago +1 / -0

We do pay for subtitles, don't we? Closed caption requirements? Of course we live in a time when college graduates are all but illiterate.

24
PhuckYourFeels 24 points ago +24 / -0

THANK YOU! This has been bothering me since day one. They look like fucking retards. If I was deaf I’d rather subtitle. Hell I use subtitles allot just so I don’t miss anything.

3
JustHereForTheSalmon 3 points ago +3 / -0

As a society we all settled on subtitles.

Then the left figured out you can virtue signal by paying someone to sign stuff that would just be on a crawl in the bottom of the screen. So the obvious answer is to make it less-inclusive because now if you're having hearing difficulties, your literacy doesn't count for anything unless you also know ASL.

9
BroRuins 9 points ago +15 / -6

Sign language is exaggerated because it's intended for people that can't hear. Where voice would convey emotion, signing has to be done a certain way depending on the intended emotion. Interpreters are far better at this than text ever will.

I agree that subtitles should be an option, but damn, no need to be a cunt about it either.

Coming from a sign language asshole.

10
Master_Wyatt_Gurp 10 points ago +11 / -1

What a specious argument. The same could be said of reading a summary of something rather than watching it. There's no good reason to pander this hard when it objectively is of no value.

3
BroRuins 3 points ago +3 / -0

Yes, the interpreter is taking up an obnoxious amount of space on the screen. I agree with you on that. An interpreter should be out of the way of the content and ideally un-interactable, being in the middle of the screen goes against what they teach interpreters, but that's not the interpreter's choice.

Other than that I don't think anyone understands the connection you're trying to make with summary/watching.

2
Master_Wyatt_Gurp 2 points ago +2 / -0

Isn't it obvious? You are describing the emotions being passed via sign language. My point is so what, most people read summaries and therefore do not ever get the emotional content, as it were.

So therefore the argument is specious, trite or otherwise given too much importance when a simple closed captioning can achieve the same thing through bold, italics and simply properly typed out captioning.

Don't tell me you can't get emotion from novels when you read text. That's a fallacious argument.
