Can we do this on Monday/Tuesday for all the local elections? Lincoln, NE has an election on May 4 and we need support voting in our candidates

Use a ballotpedia link for a separate post and ask the mods to sticky?!

Will be interesting to see if Prop B passes in liberal Austin. People in Austin are fed up with the tent cities and aggressive panhandling around town, but then Austin is full of leftists that would find it hard to vote for something like this.

5
Cyer6 5 points ago +5 / -0

I’m working the polls NE of Austin and people kept coming in to cast a vote on this measure. All of them pissed off about the camps.

3
ThurstonHowell3rd 3 points ago +3 / -0

Yeah, I read an article earlier today with a quote from the mayor saying that older, republican voters had been showing up in droves and he was encouraging younger people to get out and vote 'no' to offset. I think people are just tired of sitting in traffic and looking at all that shit, and having to wade through a gauntlet of unconscious hobos when walking on the sidewalks around town.

My question is, where were all these older republicans when the liberal mayor and city council got elected?

4
ButteryFumes 4 points ago +4 / -0

I’m here, it’s gotten really bad, people are fed up and it’s pretty hard to argue foe allowing it to continue! Just some kind of “homelessness is violence” claptrap is all they can blurt out.

2
tiamat 2 points ago +2 / -0

Who to vote for school board in Harris County?

This election snuck up on me and I did zero research, not gonna lie

11
giantrabbit1 [S] 11 points ago +11 / -0

The Harris County GOP has the conservative slate of endorsements on their page here.

https://www.harriscountygop.com/voter_guide_may_1_2021_election

I'll also mention that if you need specific recommendations, you should start by going to your county's GOP website for endorsements, and then visiting the individual candidates' websites to see if they align with your views.

Happy voting.

6
access_to_justice 6 points ago +7 / -1

Harris County GOP is NOT conservative. Never Trumper Ed Emmet let the blue tide wash over a 20 year reign of redness.

3
giantrabbit1 [S] 3 points ago +4 / -1

That's why I said to check the individual websites. I know that the GOP can endorse RINOs, so check the individual campaign websites after reading the GOP website to see if they are MAGA.

But aside from that, winnability is also important. If we split the vote, the Dem could end up winning. So keep that in mind.

Wow that Dallas County Prop 1. Literally allow foreign entities to control your cities... fucking retards.

11
invalid_data 11 points ago +11 / -0

Do your research on the School Board candidates and City Council. There are liberal radicals, socialists, and Critical Race Theory zealots trying to take over. Vote in patriots and conservatives. This is where we fight back.

4
Cyer6 4 points ago +4 / -0

All I had to vote on was school district so I picked someone who was pissed off about the high property taxes from schools and also fed up with masks on kids.

Mansfield ISD here - know what's fucking sad? Every Republican (I know they are running as "Non Partisan" but that's such bullshit) website for their candidacy gives vague platitudes as to how they support the children, and yadda yadda - but none just out and out say what they should which is: "I don't support CRT, I don't support Covid bullshit, I don't support LGBTQ preaching to 6 year olds, and teachers hiding information from parents" etc

Meanwhile, the liberals are ALL IN on spamming that they support equity, and all the other bullshit they believe in.

It's disgusting. I had to dig wayyyyy to hard to figure out which candidates are *conservative - which, btw it's questionable if they ARE conservative but they are better options then the CRT preaching sacks of shit running apposed to them - because Republicans are fucking cowards.

3
geewhiz 3 points ago +3 / -0

What state?

2
giantrabbit1 [S] 2 points ago +3 / -1

I think they run as "nonpartisan" because they are required to?

My city requires all local candidates to run as non-partisan. Also if this CRT bullshit is making it to places like Mansfield, and it gains traction, we're fucked. Completely and totally.

1
tootthebighorn 1 point ago +1 / -0

Mansfield is contaminated by proximity to Arlington.

2
Africanus 2 points ago +2 / -0

Good news is the "conservatives" appear to have won handily.

Again, are they actually conservative? Very hard to say for certain based on what they put out there - but none of the opponents who openly pushed CRT and 'equity' /communism came close.

1
tootthebighorn 1 point ago +1 / -0

It's about time that area figures it out. Maybe they are getting tired of bending over to the NFL and MLB interests for free stadiums (Arlington sucks).

1
Africanus 1 point ago +1 / -0

Seems like it was a pretty big repudiation across the board - Southlake had a 70% vote for conservative candidates - and that's an area that should have been strong for the "suburban liberal white mom" the media has said is so prominent.

Also a Democrat being locked out of the runoff.

Hopefully people waking the fuck up.

1
tootthebighorn 1 point ago +1 / -0

That is a good thing. The Demrat being locked out brought howls of protest from National Review's big never Trumper jerk Kevin Williamson what the GOP needs vs what it wants.

I'd put the link but don't want anyone to read it.

What the fuck is "Ranked Choice Voting"?

7
giantrabbit1 [S] 7 points ago +7 / -0

Where you can rank candidates (1), (2), (3) instead of just voting for 1. If nobody gets 50.01% of the #1 rank, then it goes to an instant runoff and they tally the #2 votes, the #3 votes, and so on until someone gets a majority.

The reason I put it down as "hell no" is because leftists prefer it in order to get "progressive" candidates in much easier. It's empirically proven that more progressives get elected when RCV is implemented it. That would be bad news in Liberal Austin. Therefore I think people should vote against it.

5
Redditcanblowme 5 points ago +5 / -0

Thanks for the clarification. You're right, that's not how voting is supposed to work. 1 conservative vs 5 spoilers means we never win.

3

What's wrong with ranked choice ballots?

3
123breadman 3 points ago +3 / -0

Conservatives already vote unified on candidates. GOP = 40% of vote Liberal = 32% of vote Communist = 28% of vote

No ranked choice = GOP wins Ranked choice = Liberal wins

Under ranked choice the % would be: GOP = 40% Liberal = 60% Communist = 0%

I'll try but info about these local races is scarce. Pedes that live in those states should make posts.

I'm gonna make a post about a Pennsylvania referendum election in a few weeks. It's about the governor's emergency powers.

But we should all scan ballotpedia from time to time to see if any elections are coming up in their area!

1

Apparently the “homeless ban” prop in Austin only bans homeless camps around downtown and UT, which means that if it passes, the homeless camps in the suburbs will just get bigger. Should be city wide

1

1
bannedninjabit 1 point ago +1 / -0

Rather then just say what to vote for, why not give information on what means what. I see you have selected "HELL NO!" on Prop E. While ranked choice is better than plurality voting; it is almost the same thing with extra steps. They just use it as an illusion of something better. Everyone should push for approval voting.

1
DemonicSoap 1 point ago +1 / -0

We need these for EVERY election!

0
tetrometal 0 points ago +2 / -2

Why "HELL NO" for ranked choice voting? That would finally break up the two-party uniparty.

7
giantrabbit1 [S] 7 points ago +7 / -0

Generally speaking, it's supported by leftists as a way to get progressives in way easier. RCV leads to more "progressives" winning races. That's bad, especially in liberal Austin.

-1
WhitmerKilled1000s -1 points ago +2 / -3

-2
TownHallBall -2 points ago +1 / -3

Imagine thinking elections matter.

-2
RandoTexasDude -2 points ago +2 / -4

Gotta disagree with the Travis County Prop B "vote yes." It's treating the symptom, not the disease. People voting yes on it are using the same logic as people who want to ban guns to quell gun violence.

2
ButteryFumes 2 points ago +2 / -0

??? The prop is very straightforward, do you want to ban public camping on sidewalks, etc? That’s it. I’ve been here a long time... this bs all started when Adler made public camping legal.

1
RandoTexasDude 1 point ago +1 / -0

It doesn't deal with the actual problem - homelessness. This is like banning carrying weapons to stop shootings.

1
deleted 1 point ago +1 / -0
2
RandoTexasDude 2 points ago +2 / -0

Exactly. Riders are bullshit, and make it easier to push liberal ideas. For that prop you mentioned, all a liberal has to do is frame it as you hating bicycle and walking trails, with no mention of the immigrants.

God, I hate politics.

-10
RandoTexasDude -10 points ago +3 / -13

Texan here. I used to vote for Republicans, but fuck them. Now if you're (R) or (D), you're automatically off my list.

I honestly don't see the point anyways. If the liberals managed to steal a whole presidential election, then stealing a local or state election is nothing to them. I have no faith in elections anymore.

10
giantrabbit1 [S] 10 points ago +11 / -1

No the local ones are good. For instance, in my city, a candidate that was the co-chair in the local Trump campaign is running for mayor. There are candidates for the school board who promise to eliminate CRT in one of my races.

So check it out. A lot of the local ones are more based - and since these local elections are sleepers, they have lower turnout and are easier to get your guys in. I'd also like to add that these are very consequential races - local policy affects you the most day to day.

The only influence I have is voting or withholding my vote, and the people in office aren’t doing the job, so I’m forced to withhold it. That is not “creating Portland”. That happens when ELECTED OFFICIALS DO NOT FIGHT DEMOCRATS. I have no power over that. I got them in office and they decided to help the enemy. I will not vote for them again no matter how much you squeal and cry and try to guilt trip me.

Jesus fucking Christ you fucking retard, I’ve been here since literally the beginning, since before this site even existed when we were back on Reddit. Just because you are in denial that tons of us are no longer going to vote because no candidate represents us anymore after the American Tiananmen Square event on 1/6 and our already elected Republican leadership won’t acknowledge the fraud nor lift a finger to fight it doesn’t mean I did anything wrong.

It means you live in a fantasy where their betrayal has no consequences.

0
RandoTexasDude 0 points ago +3 / -3

Exactly. Like I said, if the liberals could steal a presidential election, then it's a small matter to steal a local one.

I don't understand this website sometimes. People complain about the system being against them, yet they advocate for using the system to affect change. They complain about their enemies being in charge, then advocate to use the system controlled by their enemies.

Too many people here are living in denial.

-1
RandoTexasDude -1 points ago +1 / -2

No, I want to let it all burn. Fuck this country and fuck the people. People have let it go to hell for decades. I want them to suffer, and I want Americans to suffer. That's all they deserve after voting in liberals and allowing things like lockdowns and election fraud to succeed.

Fuck this Goddamn country. I swore an oath to defend the Constitution, and that's all I'll defend. The country and its people can rot in hell where they belong. A country gets the government it deserves.
