I'd also say it's because children and teenagers of this current generation, grew up with simplified garbage, which has no creativity, or for a lack of better words, beauty, in it.

McCloud explains that some of the "best" artists (here I'm using your and my viewpoint best) and some of the "best" writers can create together really tedious or overwrought work which doesn't emotionally resonate with anyone.
So your and mine definition of good writing may vary and it doesn't really matter but we probably have similar standards. The trick is in the simplicity. Unfortunately it's a situation of "lowest common denominator" (my words not McCloud's but basically his view) versus "High Art." The yellow smiley face is universal, anyone can view it, subconsciously see themselves as it, and feel a small twinge of happy. It works as an emotional manipulation. Mickey Mouse. Very simple lines. Once you get into Wreck it Ralph then you are farther away from the simple ambiguity.
Spider-Man is just shapes and colors in a way that Superman lacks because Superman is identifiable by outward characteristics. This makes Spider-Man a better subconscious tool, and more marketable. Take a look at the links I provided, one of them is McCloud's pyramid of cartoon abstracts. He breaks it down into three categories and spreads out famous examples.
I sincerely believe that the Leftist media designers understand this and weaponize it. It isn't necessarily about race or gender attributes (although that could be a sub-factor) but it has a lot to do with simple face shapes. Actually emojis are a great example of this too!

Postmodernism is a tool of Marxism, to promote "bad art" and lower standards for what is acceptable to a culture as a level of expression.
