Zappa is my favorite musician of all time! I was lucky enough to see 3 shows. Fun fact, zappa was the first artist to release the “concept album” with “freak out” in 1966!
If you wanna go down a rabbit hole and see how smart he was, theres a ton of interviews on youtube. Also, watch some of the interviews with some of the best musicians of all time who played with him, steve vai, terry bozzio, etc. Of particular note is the black page drum solo, so called because there were so many notes, the pages were black. Frank, who wasnt a drummer, wrote it i think as kind of a test piece for auditioning a new drummer, who ended up being bozzio. Like most of his work, you may think of it as jamming when you listen to it, but it was all on paper, and they duplicated it note for not live.
Most people who think of zappa think of “dont eat the yellow snow”, “titties and beer”, but the guy wrote dozens of symphonies and conducted them. Musical genious of our times.
What’s ironic is he was probably the biggest hippy democrat of the day, but he would have been a trump supporter, im certain of it. He’s definitely rolling over in his grave.
"We must create out of the younger generation a generation of Communists. We must turn children, who can be shaped like wax, into real, good Communists.... We must remove the children from the crude influence of their families. We must take them over and, to speak frankly, nationalize them. From the first days of their lives they will be under the healthy influence of Communist children's nurseries and schools. There they will grow up to be real Communists.”
Zappa is based and would be one of us today if his Doctor's didn't fuck up his prostrate cancer diagnosis.
Some of his interviews are epic, must watch. I love his music, but also love the man for who he was - outspoken and didn't give a shit what others thought.

Most civil liberty loving anti-authoritarians would have been Trump supporters today.
Frank hired Steve Vai to transcribe music for him. Two musical geniuses together. You can hear Zappa's influence in Vai's music.
And don't eat the yellow snow.
There was a rant on youtube from an interview he did about Civics being forced out of schools. Brilliant but its gone now.
Dude knew what was up.
