Part of the audit if done properly won't just be trying to find fraud. It will also identify blindspots and all the ways to cheat that wouldn't show up either at all or easily.
The election is a lossy system. Formally this can be determined from auditing not only the ballots but how the election was run. If you do a + b to get c but then only pass on c and don't retain a and b then that formally is a lossy process. If you end up with 4 was it 3 plus 1 or 2 plus 2 or some other combination?
For them if their outrageous claim and big lie that there's no such thing as election fraud or tampering and that the election system is 100% perfect in everyway then they have nothing to worry about.
There's not only fraud but just the fact that changes to the process can determine the winner is a huge problem particularly when the margin of victory is tight.
If you look at the election things like if you can it just the same as if COVID weren't a concern all of the indicators point to a flipped result and by that I don't mean as if COVID weren't influencing what people vote for just the how and if they vote flips it back to Trump without the changes made due to COVID.
Then you have things like making voting easier to access in targeted key blue areas in swing states such as with the dropboxes. Very subtle versions of voter suppression and election engineering that are not easily accounted for. Nothing in a case like that would have to show up on and audit looking for traditional cheating but it does basically put someone in a position for those states and the country to determine the winner, for them to choose and not the people.
Similarly just something as simple as someone being able to choose whether to accept late ballots or not is easily abused such that just one person can determine the result and at a couple of junctions at least. In essence you have variables in the system that shouldn't be there. Let's say it's midnight and you want Biden to win. If he is winning then you stop the count and don't accept late ballots. If he isn't you can keep accepting late ballots. The choice of when to stop can be abused to get the result you want.
Having free and fair elections is more difficult than people might realise. That said if you audit all the results particularly the close ones then I suspect there will be cases of cheating within the threshold of detection.
