I strongly believe a certain percentage of the public are easily susceptible to hypnotism and that people can be hypnotized easily through visual mediums such as television.

Look at bands like The Beatles. They were controlled and designed to be emphatically anti-Christian "cultural icons" for the young masses. The word teenager was invented to create a labeled divide between the kids and the parental generation, and it was easy to buy into.
War hardened parents were tough on kids. Media played on the kid's resentment, and made it easy to believe that they were a generation of out of touch warmongers, which ended up societally conflating the "peace and love" movement with the violent college class warfare.
