I'm sorry for your loss. Dogs are the best.

81
vegaspatriot1776 [S] 81 points ago +82 / -1

yes, they are indeed. thank you fellow pede.

19
kkthxk 19 points ago +19 / -0

They give you everything they've got in life, without a moments hesitation. They're the most worthy of admiration of all God's creatures and he made them so that they can teach us not just joy and unyielding love, but loss and the true value of such things, as well.

So sorry for your loss, he'll be waiting for you on the other side, by then, all this really won't matter so much.

Not just dogs, but beagles. Beagles are the best.

Hang in there. It's gonna be real sad and rough for a while :/ Just cry it out when you need and always feel free to reach out.

58
vegaspatriot1776 [S] 58 points ago +59 / -1

thank you lady pede. this one is very tough for me. i have been to funerals at Arlington for men that i fought shoulder to shoulder with, and it hurts just as bad. i don't think i have cried this much in 30 years.

33
blueladypede 33 points ago +35 / -2

Very sorry to hear about the pain you're in :/ This is really sad. Your grief makes total and complete sense. Buddy looks like a very sweet and gentle dog. Seems like he gave you a true sense of companionship, support and loyalty which is sadly totally missing from most people nowadays.

Your grief is extremely understandable. Very sorry to hear that this has been so difficult and painful. Please always feel free to reach out and don't feel pressure to suffer alone.

26

thank you lady pede. i may need to reach out some more. this is going to be tough for us! not sure how we are going to handle our last farewell.

It definitely sounds extremely tough. Buddy looks like such a great dog.

It's because humans make their own lives, while dogs life experiences are almost 100% dependent on us. Unlike even those humans closest to us, they love us truly unconditionally. When their end comes, we feel sadness and guilt for every second we did something besides spend time with them.

Condolences. RIP Buddy.

Remember that Buddy will still be watching over you after he leaves this life, and he wants you to be happy, just like he always did.

Losing a faithful canine companion is one of the most heart wrenching things a person can go through. Very few things in life have crushed me in the same manner as losing a dog. Heart goes out to you dude.

1
worldofsmut 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yeah but unlike a dog they never had the slightest inclination to lick peanut butter off your ballsack.

Not like a dog.

So God Made A Dog

And on the 9th Day God looked down on his wide eyed children and said they need a companion So God made a Dog

God said I need somebody to wake up and give kisses, pee on a tree, sleep all day, wake up again, give more kisses, and then stay up till midnight basking in the glow of the television set. So God made a Dog

God said I need somebody willing to sit, then stay, then roll over then with no ego or complaint dress in hats they do not need and costumes they do not understand. I need somebody who can break wind without a first thought or second thought. Who can chase tails, sniff crotches, fetch sticks and lift spirits with a lick. Somebody no matter what you didn’t do, or couldn’t take, or didn’t win, or couldn’t make will love you without judgment just the same. So God made a Dog

God said I need somebody strong enough to pull sleds and find bombs, yet gentle enough to love babies and lead the blind. Somebody who will spend all day on a couch with the resting head and supportive eyes to lift the spirits of a broken heart. So God made a Dog

It had to be somebody who would remain patient and loyal even thru loneliness. Somebody to care, cuddle, snuggle and nuzzle, and cheer and charm and snore and slobber and eat the trash and chase the squirrels. Somebody who would bring a family together with selflessness of an open heart. Somebody who would bark, and then pant, and then reply with the rapid wag of tail when their best friend says lets go for a ride in the car. So God made a Dog

God said I need somebody who would stand at your side when the world around you collapses. Somebody to lie next to you during the long nights of pain and sorrow when it hurts to move, or talk, or think, or be. Somebody to stand guard, play games, snore for hours, and repeat as needed. Somebody to give you strength when you have none of your own. Somebody to fight when you have no fight left, to hold onto your soul as if it were their favorite toy, playing tug of war to keep you in this world. Somebody to be your companion and guide in this world and the next. Somebody to wait for you on the other side or stand guard in your absence until they can join you for eternity. So God made a Dog

Well it was copy and paste but I’ve always found this to be a wonderful tribute to our canine family members. Hang in there, it does gradually get better.

doesn't matter how you sent it. still means the same to me, copy/paste or not. it really helps, thank you!

ThoughtCrimeConvict 23 points ago +23 / -0

Now I got some shit in my eyes. Putting down my Chocolate Lab was very hard. Best dog I ever hunted with and I've hunted with a lot. The only thing he feared was the vet...but not on that day. It was if he knew what was happening and was ready. I'll never forget the last time he looked at me. It was almost as if he was saying: "I know dad, I love you too...goodbye". It was very peaceful. No suffering whatsoever. Looking back, I'm am so grateful I had the courage to stay in the room. I highly recommend it. All the best, pede.

19
IHeartMyDoggy 19 points ago +19 / -0

Yes. It is always best to stay in the room. It is not about us, It is about making it the best experience for our faithful companions. We Need to give comfort to them in their final moments.

2
Vox_Dobad 2 points ago +2 / -0

The hardest part is just not being able to communicate to them, in no uncertain terms, how much we love them. So they know. Maybe so we know they know.

The unconditional love of a pet is not quantifiable. But we know how much they mean to us. And they know on a certain level that we care, but it's impossible for us to convey the level of our love to them and know that they understand it.

I dunno if this makes sense. But I've buried a few dogs at this point in my life, and I've cried harder doing so than I have at the loss of people who were close to me. Because I knew the people I lost knew how much I loved them. I suppose I'm lucky in that respect.

The Cat’s Diary

Day 983 of my captivity.

My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength.

The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet. Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates my capabilities.

I had to put down my dog of 15 years recently as well. I'm so sorry for you and the family, as Buddy is part of your family. Take pix, and talk to him as it happens and be there for him through all of it. Just remember, you are doing this for BUDDY so he will not suffer anymore. Buddy knows that you don't want him to go, but you are doing it for him and he thanks you.

A dog is only one piece of your world, but YOU are your dog's ENTIRE world, every part of their world revolves around you.

17
vegaspatriot1776 [S] 17 points ago +18 / -1

i really didn't want to be in the room when it happens, but after reading your post, i most likely will now. thank you so much for helping me. you guys really are the best people! i love being surrounded by pedes. God bless you!

16
FireannDireach 16 points ago +16 / -0

Be there to say goodbye. He deserves it.

14
erocks 14 points ago +14 / -0

when we had to put our family dog of 18 years down i didnt know if i could be in the room either, but ultimately chose to and i would have regretted it every second had i not been there. especially after working at a dog shelter and seeing the unadopted ones put to sleep alone in their small cages.

being able to hold her and pet her as she fell asleep and approached the rainbow bridge gave a lot of comfort to us all as she wasnt scared with only strangers around. it was an incredibly sad but peaceful end to nearly 2 decades of unconditional love, loyalty and an uncountable amount of laughs and smiles.

RIP Buddy. just know that you gave him an amazing life and he will be waiting to greet you again someday whatever you choose to do on that day.

and if there are any dry eyes left, another copy paste to remedy that.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I used to put animals down. You want to be in the room. They look for you when the owners aren’t there.

One day I’ll have to put my cats down. I think of it sometimes and it makes me sad. I hope they die of natural causes on their own. Like flipping their corvette.

4
slimcoat 4 points ago +4 / -0

It's the right call. They've been there through so much for you, and they need you in the end.

3
ChiefPez 3 points ago +3 / -0

I wasn’t in the room for either of our first cats, but you can be damn sure my Buddy will have me there with him. He’s been under my foot the entire time he’s been alive, so I won’t let him go without me.

My first dog was named buddy, may he be chasing rabbits in doggie heaven. One of my current little fellers, is curled up beside me, hes 8#, going on 15, hes in his twilight years. He still likes to beat on his little sis half his age, and is always up for a long hike, mostly perched in my backpack. Hes done 30k miles sitting on the dashboard of our motorhome, loves to kayak and paddleboard, and ride in the basket on our bikes. Hes seen more than most people and smelled more than 99% of dogs!

One day im gonna get my dogs faces tattooed on my arms, its the only tattoo i know i would never regret.

3
vegaspatriot1776 [S] 3 points ago +4 / -1

wow. what an amazing life he has had! i sure hope he has many more hikes and motorhome rides left to go. your tatoo is a great idea. i may do the same for my Buddy. thank you for the story pede. i really appreciate it, BIGLY!

Sorry for the loss. Give it some time and find a new one who needs a home.
