I thought about joining the military in order to get more disciplined, but I ultimately decided against it, and I made the right choice it looks like. Unfortunately, I had a terrible experience. My recruiter stole my sign up bonus. They convicted him and forced him to pay me $500 of the $6000 he stole from me. I did the split option. Basic training between Jr and Sr year. Went back after graduation for two weeks of AIT but they sent me back too early and I had to do basic all over again. After two years in the National Guard all of my uniforms were stolen from me and they f'n charged me with a FELONY! "Failure to account for Army National Guard Equipment" in civilian court. (That crime doesn't exist anymore) Sentenced me to 45 days in jail, 150 hours community service, restitution for the uniforms, five years supervised probation, and a life of hard labor. There went my dreams of getting a job in the field I was going to study. No felons. Despite all of this, I still remember my oath to this country and it's constitution.

Basic training between Jr and Sr year. Went back after graduation for two weeks of AIT but they sent me back too early and I had to do basic all over again. After two years in the National Guard all of my uniforms were stolen from me and they f'n charged me with a FELONY! "Failure to account for Army National Guard Equipment" in civilian court. (That crime doesn't exist anymore) Sentenced me to 45 days in jail, 150 hours community service, restitution for the uniforms, five years supervised probation, and a life of hard labor. There went my dreams of getting a job in the field I was going to study. No felons. Despite all of this, I still remember my oath to this country and it's constitution.

Those types have almost never seen any combat, and a lot who have weren't kicking in doors, or had some combat badge "hand jammed" by some crafty paperwork.
