I'm ready to have a conversation about why we even allow trusts, foundations, and corporations to even exist in the first place.
Their main purpose is to shelter the wealthy from liability and taxes the rest of us are subject to.
Hell, the first 2 Family Foundations were created by the Rockefellers and Carnegies, essentially shielding their vast fortunes from the then non-existent progressive income tax they'd then participate in creating on Jekyll Island.
Put another way; they shielded their own assets and then created taxes for the rest of us. Good work if you can get it, I guess.
My dad had a trust, and it made probating his estate much easier, and sheltered the money he worked for from being taxed one more time at his death.
I'm also willing to have a conversation, but only if it's about reform around the legalities of trusts. They have a purpose, and for some, it's a big benefit. Like anything, they're abused by the 1%, and that clearly could use some reform. Especially when it's the Whore and her husband.

But there is another side to this argument. The super rich passing down generational wealth is actually a problem. The solution they've come up with is pretending to tax them upon death, even though these structures allow them to bypass the tax, so now it really only applies to the moderately wealthy. Family farms get decimated by this.
So how do we address the problem of concentrated wealth? Raise the estate tax so it only applies to billionaires? They'll just find other conduits to get around this.
Why is that a problem? Saved = Earned
Concentrated wealth is a problem because these ultra wealthy families like the Rothschilds, Rockefellers, etc. have more money than they can ever spend so they use it to purchase power at everyone else's expense.
These are the people who own our government and are plotting our demise.

But I'm not holding my breath for reform, along with any meaningful tax reform until the Fed is a lot more MAGA. Having gone through the probate process, it is outrageous how much of a person's life the government claims, as a "reward" for dying. As someone whose relative recently died, the Trust protected his assets so it didn’t go to probate. It was very easy to split things up, and very transparent.
I’m not sure about the super-wealthy, but it’s my understanding that trusts are taxed separately, so you don’t really want to keep one around longer than necessary.
I've done some work in estate planning so am very familiar with its uses. You could accomplish the same thing with a will if our laws hadn't been bastardized.
Probate needs to be re-examined too.

Just know that all of these vehicles were created by the super-wealthy for one specific purpose; to make sure they don't have to follow the same rules as everyone else.

Part of my thinking is that if you get rid of all of these structures that protect the rich, they'll be forced to change the legal system so these ambulance chasing attorneys and other hyenas can't get at them.
