Bah!

A lot of memes are based on fake news.

exactly

RU_joe_king 32 points ago +34 / -2

How hard is it to provide a link?

26
Konsaki 26 points ago +28 / -2

Because they're pathetic and instead of doing 4 seconds of work to provide a link to their own source they used to make the meme for quick verification, they force other pedes to spend hours of manpower to individually search for the source.

21
failsafe2111 21 points ago +23 / -2

it rarely ever takes 4 second. I've seen so many dubious claims on this site that often are exaggerated to the point of fake news, or simply don't have any sources after hours of searching.

its simple, you make a claim, you provide a source. anything less than that is unsubstantiated and deserves only skepticism.

And so damn many snippets without enough context to find the article and the only sources that kinda come up look like virus infection sites where I won’t click on it much less read the contents.

I roll my eyes at so much

Tr0mp 7 points ago +7 / -0

it doesnt take "4 seconds" to "do your own research" when 90% of the info is fake crap and all the search engines are biased and ever-changing. something can be there one minute and gone the next or changed.

Konsaki 12 points ago +12 / -0

it doesnt take "4 seconds" to "do your own research"

You misread my post:

  • It takes 4 seconds for the OP of meme to post their source link

  • it takes other pedes hours of manpower to find said link in the search trash

Tr0mp 4 points ago +4 / -0

whoops sorry--you are indeed correct.

Learn to read?

easier said than done. be kind, provide links wherever possible.

markolbb 1 point ago +1 / -0

yeah why the hell are you giving me a homework assignment? you're posting something, include the sauce!

3
throne-away 3 points ago +3 / -0

Apparently it's pretty difficult to take a Twitter screenshot with the date/time, because 9/10 of them are missing. It's really disappointing to find that some choice bit of news is from 2019.

Same with other screenshots. The other day there were several prese Ted as something new and breaking, but in fact were 6 months to over a year old.

how hard is it to do your own research? if you can't find anything on the subject, drop it

-2
Siretch -2 points ago +4 / -6

Why would you comment on a post if you cannot contribute to it? If someone post something of interest to me, I would do my own research, and then comment if I want to contribute to the post.

What is the point of asking for a link?

3
Chaotikizm 3 points ago +3 / -0

I can think of a scenario.

Remember that statue a week ago with the big head holding a torch sitting down?

I looked, I couldn't find shit about the name of it, the creator, or their intention for it when it first appeared in memes on here. A link would have helped, as it's so new no info exists/extremely hard to find.

Turns out it's called The Oracle and featured in NYC by Sanford Biggers.

I still don't know why it exists.

Siretch 1 point ago +1 / -0

There are posts asking for help. People do that often on the Technology board, and other people would try to help them.

laziness... people love to be spoonfed

14
Jaunty_Haul 14 points ago +14 / -0

link?

4
Groundpounder 4 points ago +4 / -0

When the link is blasted before the possibly have time to read it... that’s the most frustrating. If it’s not CNN or MSNBC, how could it be true....?

4
B_Sack 4 points ago +4 / -0

No. You are the one posting. It's a consideration to your fellow .win users to post the link instead of making EVERY SINGLE PERSON GO OUT AND FIND IT.

Every new post is an opportunity to get to the bottom of that particular rabbit hole.

When you keep posting bullshit memes like “Coke sales down 50%” with zero context, then yeah I’m going to ask for a link with context. All soft drink sales are down for the first time in a decade. Coke didn’t lose market share or a ton of consumers based on woke policies, at least it’s not probable at the moment, and we have to call that bullshit out.

My source that backs up my statement... Oh, and naturally in home sales have increased. Moral of the story... post your fucking link and don’t be a bitch when asked.

When you're so lazy you just take a screenshot, and then not include a link.

Other people have to type it, you could have copy/pasted.

failsafe2111 1 point ago +1 / -0

We live in a world where someone can claim something "really, literally" happened, be knowingly wrong, and then have law cover them from defamation. So excuse the hell out of anyone that asks for a dang source.

substantiate your claims are take a seat next to rachel maddow

When the left memes, at least they give you a hundred word lecture on why you need to be demonized...

Wait. That's not what a meme is.

Patriot_Lettuce 1 point ago +1 / -0

When you're attempting to communicate an idea, but make it unnecessarily more difficult and add more steps, then get arrogant when the listener asks you to be more fucking specific.

People who do this are arrogant little shits. Get over yourselves.

If you can google it in 5 seconds, I’ll literally just respond “google”

This is true for both sides... it's a symptom of our political tribalism. "Truth" is whatever confirms your bias. "Propaganda" is anything you disagree with.

CaptainButthurt -1 points ago +4 / -5

They literally have a keyboard and search engines at their fingertips but are either too dumb or too lazy to use them.

-8
Siretch -8 points ago +5 / -13

I ignore any comments that ask for a link - if they can't do their own research or have the information themselves, they shouldn't be commenting.
