I was up to a 12-pack a day of Diet Coke nearly 5 years ago, went cold turkey and don’t preach to those still there. I believe it only sticks if you want to quit. Saved a bunch by switching to water, tho, and that’s about all I offer on the subject.

My father in law was a drunk. Downed a case of beer a day. When he quit, he started drinking diet Pepsi to the tune of several two liters a day. His doctor told him it would be better if he went back to drinking beer.

Diet soda isn't even food. It's a chemical stew designed to fool your taste buds into thinking it's food, but your digestive system knows better.

Back in those days it was 24 cans in a case.

NvJohansson 9 points ago +9 / -0

Trying to wean off something and just drinking water feels very punitive, for me anyways. Sparkling water with just a splash of either cranberry, orange or lemon juice makes it so much easier.

7
Erkme73 7 points ago +7 / -0

Look into the liquid flavoring. I use berry pomegranate from Mio. About $3 for a small squirt bottle that'll dose about 25 16.9-oz water bottles. It sweetens the water just a touch (or more if you put it in heavy) and gives it a hint of flavor that make water not just palatable, but actually something you look forward to. My water consumption has gone from ZERO to about 8 to 10 bottles per day. Haven't had a Coke Zero in nearly a year.

5
Meme_Too 5 points ago +5 / -0

Sucralose? Blech.

2
IeatCrakerzNbed 2 points ago +3 / -1

Any food additive ending in "ose" is sugar ( carbohydrate ) the natural version is glucose, C6H12O6, that's 6 carbon molecules 6 C and 6 H2O molecules. The artificial shit, fructose, sucrose, sucralose etc. Your body doesn't process except as fat. And the artificial sweeteners, nutrasweet, aspartame, saccharine, etc. Those are derived from crude oil. Fluorocarbons do not interact with organic matter. It's not like vegetable oil or organic oils, it might as well be a small drop of kerosene or gasoline.

1
Meme_Too 1 point ago +1 / -0

Fructose and sucrose are naturally occurring sugars. Sucralose is an artificial sweetener produced by the chlorination of sucrose. And it tastes like shit, because as far as your body is concerned, it is. I'm not a fan of anything ending in -ose. But the artificial sweeteners, including all of the sugar alcohols, are just plain poison.

1
Futuramawe 1 point ago +1 / -0

Your fake science lesson leaves out the important fact that there are some compounds that can be broken down in the body (like glucose) and some that cannot (like sucralose).

5
SharonaZamboni 5 points ago +5 / -0

See, the thing is the conditioning. People think water is bland.

Whut other animal on the planet feels like water is insufficient?

2
OneBigMaga 2 points ago +2 / -0

My liquid intake has been mostly water for about 15 years. I'm in better shape and health than most people 10 years younger than me.

3
NvJohansson 3 points ago +3 / -0

I was trying to find a substitute with out any sugar, I wasn't doing for specific medical reasons but after I realized that the more sugar you eat the more sugar you want. Its a drug. So it seems now that I've cut out most useless sugars out of my diet, my wife put sugar by accident my coffee that has said damn this is sweet after that I just had a block for like a year now.

She buys this stuff from a local shop. That have specialty drink flavours but they have every single fruit under the sun too. You just need like a tablespoon full and a big glass and it's really damn good even with zero sugar.

https://ibb.co/SVmVVfc

3
SharonaZamboni 3 points ago +3 / -0

I got a stevia plant recently, and just made some stevia extract. I’ve been off the sugar for a while, but I’m going to see if a bit of sweet in my coffee is a treat or a truck.

2
OneBigMaga 2 points ago +2 / -0

"stevia"

I'd rather drink coke. (see my earlier comment about drinking coke)

1
OneBigMaga 1 point ago +1 / -0

Once you start on the water, you get hooked. I drink 3-4 quarts a day (tap), just because I want it.

5
NvJohansson 5 points ago +5 / -0

But even worse is when you stop drinking sodas all together, and you have just a sip of one like 6 months after you realize how sweet and chemical that garbage is

2
SharonaZamboni 2 points ago +2 / -0

When you stop consuming the stuff that’s called “food”, even a damn Ritz cracker tastes foreign. Best bet is to eat whatever is closest to its natural state. Like all other organisms on the planet do.

It’s hard to pass up a treat now and then, but once you go cold turkey for a while, man made tastes weird.

2
NvJohansson 2 points ago +2 / -0

2
AndrewLB 2 points ago +2 / -0

I've been drinking a lot of iced tea, oj, lemonade, and bought a nice 5 stage water filtration system so i don't have to spend money on bottled water. You can't really drink tap water here in SoCal without it.

1
NvJohansson 1 point ago +1 / -0

It's good in MA, it's just the flatness of it. It's fine when playing hockey or other sports but for a drink at home it doesn't feel satisfying enough for me

1
OneBigMaga 1 point ago +1 / -0

It doesn't need to feel satisfying, in just needs to quench your thirst. In fact, that's all any liquid you drink needs to do and Soda is terrible at that. It's even worse if it's hot and you are dehydrated.

4
Paradyme 4 points ago +4 / -0

I used to get a 32 Oz coke every morning even while working out and losing weight and one day as I’m drinking it it’s as if a switch flipped and I said “you know, I really don’t like how I feel when I drink this.” So I quit cold Turkey. Now every once in awhile I’ll get a fountain drink. Get a shot of Coca Cola and remember why I’m not drinking it. Fill the glass with unsweetened tea.

10
SorosHasBallsackEyes 10 points ago +10 / -0

You guys should look into making homemade drinks. You can easily make lemonade, sweet tea, iced tea, or iced coffee at home without supporting these shitty companies.

I do. Other people do, its just not enough. Show me a citrus grower that doesn’t utilize illegals for labor. Tea? Coffee? Show me ethically sourced and something mass produced that everyone can partake in your recommended practice. Lipton tea, for example is owned by Pepsi. Maxwell House, owned by Heinz. Folgers is owned by P&G. Because I seriously doubt everyone has the means to grow citrus and/or coffee beans and/or tea leaves.

Corporations have their hands in everything. Thats why they are so brazen in their disdain for you, they don’t think you have any other choice. I agree that better choices can be made, but they need to be better facilitated.

1

1
Dirk_Diggler 1 point ago +1 / -0

Well, I guess as long as it’s all fraudulently laundered and all the books are cooked, its all good then.?

They know where the labor comes from. I worked in construction, same cheap labor dynamic. The big developers didn’t hire illegals, but the contractors who they hired to build the homes did. “The husband didn’t kill his wife, the hitman he hired to do it did.” It’s just passing the buck.

And you know like I know from construction, like I am sure you know from AG, that if the wage exploitation of illegals doesn’t occur, then nobody would be able to afford the product’s actual price. If nike couldn’t mass produce shoes for pennies using slave labor, they wouldn’t be able to profit from their insane markup. Or no one would be able to afford an iphone and so on and so on. And its all out of sight out of mind. Slowly building up resentment in the people who make these things, that they themselves can’t afford, so that we can enjoy cheap subsidized shit. That is the nature of reality, unfortunately.

3
OneBigMaga 3 points ago +4 / -1

It's like smoking. You don't need replacements, nicotine gums or any other crap, you just need some will power and resolve. I was a smoker for 15 years and one day I decided to quit, so I threw away my cigarettes and never lit another one. It's been nearly 20 years since I quit. The reason most people don't quit is not because it's addictive, but because they are sad little bitches with no will power. Quitting smoking was probably the easiest thing I have ever decided to do in my life.

French press is a trick to get just right, but so is any coffee making thingy really. French presses though - do not require the use of anything at all except the french press itself, coffee and water. Not even a filter.

Best dollar ratio. Clean coffee. And not paying for garbage corp.s to cancel you! Win. Win.

I believe 10% or more of calories in the average diet come from sweet drinks. That's enough to make you a fat beast.

If you don't drink sodas, and then you started the habit, and the sodas increased your calories by only 100 calories a day, over a year, you'd gain more than 10 pounds of weight. Do this over 5 years. That's more than 50 fucking pounds of fat.

I am with you buddy. Exactly the same. I used to be hugely pro Coke as it does taste better. Not any more.

Doing my bit. I own a little burger van over here in the UK and the second I saw that shit from Coke US I got rid of all coke products in favour of Pepsi and local drinks like Tango (Fizzy Orange drink). I dont say "Is Pepsi OK?", I say "I don't sell Coke, I have Pepsi" and when they ask why, I tell them!

I might only sell a couple of cases a week but I ll be damned if I give another penny to white hating companies. Additional bonus is a case of Coke cost me £10 whereas a case of Pepsi costs £7.

It was the same when I owned a pub; Pepsi was cheaper and actually gave a shit about the people selling its products. They really tried hard and gave you loads of cool free shit for putting Pepsi in your bar (like £500 branded fridges and stuff). Coke couldn't even be bothered to turn up to maintain their ancient rusting cellar machines.

7
deeluna 7 points ago +7 / -0

Sorry to say, but Pepsico has been virtue signalling too, who do you think owned Aunt Jamima? I'd just go with local flavors.

7
brsmith77 7 points ago +7 / -0

Unfortunately we have no local Coke equivalent in the UK. The local brands don't even bother to compete with the big two; it's all supermarket own brand stuff that you can't really sell from a van.

I have to have a cola so going 'lesser of two evils'. Tango does really well though.

1
deeluna 1 point ago +1 / -0

Have you thought about Virgil's Sodas? They have a cola as well as many other flavors. I know it's an American brand, but I can attest to how good they taste.

2
brsmith77 2 points ago +2 / -0

They look really good but unfortunately there does not appear to be any legit supplier in the UK, just those rip off 'American Candy' shops.

It would be great for food festivals etc but it is prohibitively expensive for day to day trade where I am. I am serving factory workers and truck drivers. They'll not pay more than £1 for a soda, and they usually want a name they know.

2
deeluna 2 points ago +2 / -0

A fair point on that, also £1 is relatively cheap compared to here in the states at $2.09 (~£1.48) unless it's a fountain drink, and even then pricing is deceiving due to how much ice is used .

2
brsmith77 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yeah, its 60p to £1 for a can here and £1 - £1.50 for a bottle. I would be able to get away with charging more for a bottle than a can, but I think it would be best for food festivals and events rather than my Mon - Fri pitch.

I've been looking at Mexican sodas. The Jarritos Pineapple is a hell of a summer drink! My whole shtick is legit American burgers and dogs though (most UK burger vans sell an absolute abomination of a burger) so some US sodas would be great if I can find a reliable source that won't bumrape me on price!

For those that are curious here is a standard UK burger van burger. Pretty grim eh? Mine are in a different league.

another thing you can try, something that helped me get off soda... is those packets of sugar free water flavors.

store brand from the place i buy from sells enough to do 5 gallons for like 3 bucks.

two packs mix into a gallon jug of water perfectly.

i know that sugar free shit isn't great for you but it taste better than water and will get you off the soda, it's a nice middle ground.

i like cherry pomegranate, pink lemonade, and mixing half and half peach ice tea and lemonade.

they make for good mixers too.

Used to chug the stuff. Two months woke coke free. Never going back

water, whiskey, coffee... they're all somewhat natural and unprocessed, and all serve some type of purpose ?

I stopped drinking Coke the day they made that "be less white" comment.

I now drink a lot more ice tea (not sweet tea) lightly sweetened, Lemonade, Coffee, and water. In fact, i haven't had a single high fructose corn syrup drink since.

after i graduated high school i inherently understood it was resiculous and foolish to guzzle fake syrup mixed with carbonated water all the time. people that bring home cases upon cases of soda are sub human to me. sorry not sorry. in the age of information ignorance is a choice. switch to beer

Healthy diet is a way to go. I heard that sperms of the unvaccinated will become valuable. We may just invest in our health rather than buying bitcoins. I can produce a few loads of sperm for impregnating multiple women a day, by far easier way to make some hundred dollars a day.

It's not good for you anyway. Don't buy Dasani or any other their other products either.

bow2maga 2 points ago +2 / -0

for real man drink a gallon of water a day and you will be addicted to water. When I was in the military I drank nothing but water and that's what started my craving and love for water. before that I hardly drank water as much as I should of been. Ice cold water is my favorite go to drink.

Amen brother - same here. Big Coca Cola family, big MLB family, big NFL family, big NBA family, big Disney family, big facebook family, big twitter family, etc. - but have given ALL THAT up for TRUTH, JUSTICE AND THE AMERICAN WAY.

Vietnam Vet/Patriot here and have questioned everything being told since 11/22/1963 and felt I was alone with my views. We are going to get our country back as well as the World. We just don't control or are privy to the timing.

I rarely drink soda, but used to drink Coke when I did. Like you, I switched it back to RC for the times when I may drink one soda.

All the sugary shit tastes good but does nothing but make you thirstier. Water and some lime juice is where I'm at... forever.

Ditto. Not much I can do, but I do the shopping for our household. No business that attempts to undermine the family or God, or to bring about some kind of neo-racist bullshit will profit from my family's custom. I don't say anything to anyone - I just quietly select the products that do or don't come through the door.

I mean not drinking any soda is preferable, but a wild Cherry Pepsi is one of Life’s sweetest moments. But seriously soda is practically poison. I gotta stop drinking that stuff.

Mammals should not drink liquid sugar, especially corn syrup in a can.

1
Futuramawe 1 point ago +1 / -0

Thanks to woke soda companies, I now make my own diet sodas using unsweetened cola / root beer syrup, liquid sucralose and a 5lb co2 cannister.

1
madamaw 1 point ago +1 / -0

Soda is the worst thing ever. I cha ged absolutely nothing about my diet other than drinking water instead of soda and I lost 60lbs just from that.

Try Pepsi with real cane sugar ... It is actually really good, I was a coke drinker and have switched at home to the Pepsi with real sugar.
