The idea that a new naturally occurring virus emerged 800m from a lab experimenting on viruses with gain of function is one of the dumbest ideas of all time.

53
muslimporn 53 points ago +54 / -1

The thing is people are missing is that they weren't just experimenting with viruses.

The objective of the funding for the research program they were part of was specifically to create another SARS virus. If you have a city where there's a laboratory with a mission to create SARS-CoV-2 and then SARS-CoV-2 comes out then the first thing you do is ask did this come from the laboratory making SARS-CoV-2.

I've made exactly the same point as Jon Stewart over a year ago.

Even Fauci knows this. He sends a progress report internally to his staff while arranging urgent off the record calls which says they were half way done creating SARS-CoV-2 in 2015. They had created SARS-CoV-1.5 and just needed to repeat the procedure.

Shinydenim 19 points ago +19 / -0

Yes, there were reports indicating that yeast DNA may have been exploited to enhance the stickiness of C19. The purview of gain of function is absolutely not limited to a single kingdom or genome.

muslimporn 22 points ago +23 / -1

The technique they use really doesn't even require sophisticated genetic engineering. Give me $10million then I can issue a grant for scientists with a gene splicing laboratory somewhere to generate hundreds or even thousands of new pandemic causing viruses. That's all it costs to end human civilisation. Potentially less.

Let me explain the technique...

You have a fully working Ford Fiesta. You also have a scrap yard filled with old cars.

You find a Ford fiesta that doesn't work. So what do you do? Well you can take out the spark plugs and try them in the working one to see if they still work.

You can apply this process both ways. It's a standard trouble shooting process. You can end up finding components from different cars that work together and also end up with enough components to fix one of the cars or even make a new one.

You can do this with other things like PCs. You swap out the graphics card for example to see if that's broken. You can do this on viruses to make loads and loads.

If you have a working virus like SARS-CoV then you can find similar, potentially compatible viruses that are distantly related in nature then swap parts of the genome testing it in humanised mice to see what works and what doesn't.

The 2015 paper Fauci was panicking about and keeping secret in his emails demonstrated that technique being done for real to produce a new virus.

Viruses tend to bounce around species and you can do this with loads of viruses. Flu is in all kinds of animals.

If we think of this like PC recycling then with two PCs you can swap all kinds of different parts to make far more than two models. You can do the same with the viral genomes.

You can do this research at scale to accumulate thousands of working parts if not more and endless combinations of possible novel viruses you can create from recombination.

It's possible to effectively make a dooms day lab like this and release a million years worth of pandemics in a few years.

The genomes are usually naturally like this. They're a blue print for each component and in sections. You can take two and cut them at any point then swap halves to mix and match. You can also swap whole components like the spike protein which is like swapping graphics card.

Read this very carefully, slowly, think about it do some tests in notepad or something, you'll shit yourself.

that_sound 11 points ago +11 / -0

Was it not just like last week that we found out that the virus genome has a CGGCGG section that does not exist in nature, but is a commonly used in splicing? Essentially proving that it's an engineered virus.

Whatever happened to that? Is the Narrative just going to ignore it?

How the fuck did that news just fade away?

2
muslimporn 2 points ago +3 / -1

That's not really a long sequence and it's repetitive. Could be 1 in 4k or more or less. The genome is 64Kbp. Non-overlapping that's at least 10k chances with an even distribution (more chances considering overlap). It is found in nature it's just very infrequent among these viruses, other sequences are more favoured (moderately uneven distribution). It's suspect rather than a smoking gun.

You're over playing that tiny thing a little. If you look at any virus then you'll find a small amount of rare or odd stuff. Got to apply the null hypothesis.

If they did there research right there should be nothing that can't be explained by nature because their research was to simulate nature to confirm theories about it and what viruses nature is capable of creating. If they do anything that's not possible or highly improbable naturally they're contaminating their experiment.

The example I explain about can be done without having any signs of modification. You're just swapping natural parts of naturally occurring viruses and nature also does this.

That is just one small improbable or uncanny parts of the virus that raises questions.

A huge mistake in this argument is that they say that only exists in 5% of related viruses. We don't know how many viruses labs have in Wuhan that aren't publicly known.

A lot of investigations are over focused on what evidence we do have available and what we know the laboratory had at its disposal but not considering what we know it could have had and likely would have had to varying degrees.

I mean someone comes out of the supermarket and shows me a can of beans they bought, I know the shop had that almost for certain. I don't need to have to go into the supermarket still to make a reasonable prediction that they have eggs, bread, potatoes, bacon, etc.

They could have a thousands times more related strains than is on record and if I were running the project that's what I would have for better results and to meet the objective.

I'd be collecting as much source material as possible to fill the scrap yard with possible samples to draw different components from and I'd have no reason to be publishing it all automatically.

Regardless, there are a lot of small oddities like this that are ill explained and that are somewhat suspect especially collectively.

A more disturbing fact is that the process I've described, which is what they were doing and would make it very difficult or impossible to rule out nature as they're reproducing it could be used to create a super virus that infects multiple species. Instead of just testing it against humanised mice also some other animal species. Make it either hyper generic or targeting some other animal species you want to target using humans are carries for example or to just watch the world burn.

This process can create perhaps thousands or even millions of novel viruses that work on humans so after a point you may quickly want to move onto something else.

10
muslimporn 10 points ago +11 / -1

Genetic engineering is science fact now far more than science fiction. We are living in a real horror world.

8
Shinydenim 8 points ago +8 / -0

GATTACA took place at a time too far along in the advancement of genetic engineering to show the horrors of failed experiments leading to it. Someone should make a movie showing the earlier stages where it becomes uncomfortably obvious that none of the leading researchers know what they are doing while simultaneously not giving a shit

5
muslimporn 5 points ago +6 / -1

I don't think Gattaca is even the half of it. Though we are at the point now where it is possible for a developed country to genetically sequence everyone. We see that as a consumer product.

The problem is no one sees exactly what they're doing in these labs. You need to read these papers which are only partial public records and you need to be very literate to fully grasp what they're up to including their intentions.

4
DisbandTheCIA 4 points ago +4 / -0

Yes exactly this is a great way to explain it! This is why I also don’t trust mrna technology AT ALL.

They aren’t working with spark plugs which have a known and specific function within a vehicle with comprehensively understood mechanisms at play.

They are working with cells and biology at a level that they DON’T UNDERSTAND the mechanics!!

What they’re doing is like if you could confuse your spark plug for a pack of explosives and detonator that blows i to the whole vehicle!!

1
muslimporn 1 point ago +2 / -1

The messed up thing is that in their proof of concept experiment they took the spike protein RNA from one virus and swapped it into SARS-1 to see if it would work on humans simulating recombination that can happen in live hosts.

The mRNA vaccine injects people with the RNA for only the spike protein from SARS-CoV-2. Just like they did in that experiment but injecting it into humans instead of mixing it up in a test tube or machine.

I've yet to hear anyone explain to me if they've done anything to prevent that recombining with another related virus in a human host just like the lab was doing to simulate recombination in a live host.

If they've done nothing special then humans are like that test tube but less efficient. However if you inject it into a billion of them multiple times, some of them might be infected with something else at the same time.

Then what happens?

Your example is both true and false. They certainly know enough to be able to switch components with deep awareness of their function.

However, lets say you're doing this to make Mr Potato Head cars or Frankenstein cars.

They can only guess how fast it'll go with some degree of accuracy so ultimately they have to test it. Put it on the track and have it race against time to see the speed.

Same for the virus. You're testing it on mice not just because you don't know for sure if it'll work or not until you do but also if you don't know that the same applies to how well it works.

2
DisbandTheCIA 2 points ago +2 / -0

They have a deep knowledge in that there’s a large number of observations and relational information to some particular mechanisms - They don’t have deep understanding of how it will impact various human systems and they don’t know all of the mechanics at play. They don’t have deep understanding of how the changes interact within ecosystems.

I think somehow despite your comprehension you’re a bit too confident in regards to how much humans actually understand relative to the complexities of biology.

Assigning some letters based on rudimentary observations of one substance isn’t “decoding the genome.” Cutting bits out or comparing relational data within the rudimentary observations is not indicative of a foundational and comprehensive understanding.

A car is something machined and assembled precisely, every minute function is known up until theoretical physics. Human biology is not understood to that point, we don’t even know all of the chemical reactions that take place from the perspective of our own periodic table which itself is a guide to fallacy of observational assumptions.

I’m not against science, I think the work being done is absolutely incredible and evidence of our knowledge is everywhere. At the same time, there’s a big stinking difference between understanding that pulling a lever produces a result and why it does.

muslimporn 0 points ago +1 / -1

I've been reading or skimming a bunch of papers on SARS-CoV-2 and SARS research historically among other things. You would be shocked at the advanced being made and the capabilities.

I am against science and I'm not against science. It depends what you really mean by science. To some people the Bible the conduit to God. For other people the Pope is the conduit to God. Some people don't need either of those.

You should be against Science but not against science. The former is like the Catholic Church which conflates itself with God.

They're not just swapping bits of RNA around in data files. They're doing it for real and creating the viruses, full real specimens. They have this capability.

They also have a test bed that correlates very well with effectiveness in humans. In vitro testing on cell lines but also testing in mice with their ACE2 genes replaced with those of humans as well as potentially human like immune systems from genetic engineering.

The CCP doesn't even have a problem experimenting on humans. They disappear people all the time and do what they like to them. Harvest their organs, etc. They would also be able sample humans already exposed to and harbouring coronaviruses due to ample exposure with animals to correlate what works better or worse.

Now long before this happened a rogue scientist in China was trying to genetically engineer humans for Christ's sake.

Had I not delved deeply into what they're doing I might have been less certain like you are.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4797993/

This isn't an argument of what they can't do or don't know. That's all moot and you're steering it the wrong way. The point is what they can do and they can know. Everything I've said is based on proven capabilities and base on what they've shown they know or are able to find out. They have the minimum requirements and more.

2
ikuyas 2 points ago +2 / -0

That's true. But if it's too deadly, the hosts die too quickly before spreading.

1
muslimporn 1 point ago +2 / -1

I think that if you have these testing methods then you can create all sorts and humanised mice are a fairly good test vector.

You can end up with a lot of combos. Enormous combinations. Something that humans carry with few symptoms but that is highly lethal to cows.

Or test it on both humanised mice and house mice to find a mix that kills humans but not mice and house mice are everywhere humans are. Or birds or whatever.

Dual species is enough to over come that and even not being very deadly that many viruses making humans sick all the time with so many effects cripples society and would probably be a major selection event. The sheer chaos.

You start to get a sense now perhaps of the oh shit.

4
AnomalusCitizen7375 4 points ago +4 / -0

This. What actually made him funny here is the fact that we know this entire subject ist verboten, and the statements he's making even more so.

He's being a comedian. You can't have true comedy without offending somebody:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAK0KXEpF8U (Sorry for TY link)

This is what Stewart was doing, and he almost certainly did it without Colbert knowing (Judging by Colbert's face during this), which made it even more funny.

Stewart is being absurd while also voicing taboo thoughts. It doesn't mean he believes it, and he certainly isn't one of us... But this is what made it funny.
It's actually an instance of everything Colbert was supposed to be, that being a comedic caricature of a republican, but never managed to make funny.

0
muslimporn 0 points ago +2 / -2

That's propaganda. It doesn't really make sense either.

Not all the liberals are going for it. Some of them are coming out of their TDS partially but not others.

Quite a lot of outlets are still going insane against the possibility of a laboratory origin.

It’s the same as having a mystery arsenic poisoning a mile down the road from the arsenic factory. You inspect the arsenic factory. The exact specifics of the connection are down to speculation until there has been an investigation. The factory goes to the top of the suspect list. If arsenic poisoning can also happen because people are illegally mining even digging it up in their own back garden then that also goes to the top of the suspect list but one suspect isn’t to the exclusion of the other.

I said that in April 19. He's stealing my lines. It is a common sense pattern of thought that if you follow really does make you insanely angry when they're doing things like banning people talking about it as though it's some science fantasy.

Gain of function research is basically unlocking modding for viruses. They can take different parts of different viruses and swap them out to create modded new ones that didn't exist before. The mods could be things such as making it airborne, having a higher infectiousness, etc.

1
IAmNotAnAutist 1 point ago +1 / -0

Take a virus that cannot infect humans and modify it so it can.

That's it.

0
muslimporn 0 points ago +1 / -1

They were searching for undiscovered viruses circulating in animals and then modifying them to add the ability to infect humans and cause a pandemic.

They wanted to work out how many changes it would take for the viruses to jump to humans to find out how likely it would be.

The only way to prove their theories that a virus could cause a pandemic with a certain amount of changes is to make those changes and cause a pandemic.

2

How is the lab leak theory "harmful"? Like I get they ar trying to destroy free speech by calling speech they don't agree with "harmful", but most the time atleast there is a sort of logic behind it. Like saying "masks are useless" could be considered "harmful" if masks aren't useless and the virus spreads more because people listen as an example (not saying I agree just saying atleast you can see the logic pathway they are useing).

But how in the hell is postulating about the origin of the virus "harmful" to anyone. Have we already gotten to the point where all dissenting speech is labeled "harmful" weather it even makes any sense or not?

I fucking hate the linguistic wordplay the media plays to push their propaganda and morally bankrupt narrative.
