That diaper is only rated for 3.5 hours and the meeting is supposed to last 4 hours. What could be more tense!?

Really though the only thing Putin actually did that they haven’t done worse is Crimea and that was almost 10 years ago by now

5
Modernturnkey 5 points ago +5 / -0

What did he do in Crimea? I'm unfamiliar with a lot of the Russian politics.

17
bobobob 17 points ago +17 / -0

VP Biden helped orchestrate a coop in Ukraine in 2014 that put a pro-EU and anti-Russian government into power. Russia responded by taking the Crimean peninsula from Ukraine and annexing it into Russia.

Crimea is important geopolitically as it controls access into the Kerch straight and into Russian ports. It's also the headquarters of Russia's Black Sea fleet and has been going back to the Soviet era.

9
Ocineaa 9 points ago +9 / -0

Something crazy like 95% of citizens there wanted to be Russian again anyway.

5
iamherefortheluls 5 points ago +5 / -0

and had not 1 but two previous referendums before Ukraine revolution happened, demanding autonomy to join Russia.

5
bobobob 5 points ago +5 / -0

Most of our current problems with Russia stem from the Crimea annexation and us not being able to admit defeat and move on.

9
Canlog96 9 points ago +10 / -1

It’s a whole complex thing but I’ll try my best.

Sevastopol is a major Russian port city and naval base, home to their Black Sea fleet. It’s on the Crimean peninsula which was owned by Ukraine.

Crimea has a Russian majority population and is only part of Ukraine now because it was transferred to their administrative control during the old Soviet days in 1954 when no one actually thought it would matter. When the USSR collapsed Ukraine gained control over Crimea which was a threat to the Russian naval base. They decided to annex Crimea bringing it back into Russia proper after a referendum. This is where things start getting complicated because there’s varying points of view.

From the Russian perspective Crimea was a Russian majority area that laboured under Ukrainian rule. They recently ousted their pro-Russia government after some kind of totally-not a coup which saw the rise of a basically literally fascist government which had a grudge against the Russian minorities. The referendum was free and fair and Crimea has a right to be reunified with Russia. The west is punishing Russia for respecting the will of the people.

From the Ukrainian and western perspective the Russians illegally annexed Crimea violating international law. The referendum was a sham and there are rumours of little green men(Russian mercs/soldiers) “guarding” the polls. The Ukrainians claim they ousted a corrupt authoritarian and instated true democracy. For this reason they believe Crimea is rightfully theirs regardless of demographics and they got the west to aid them by placing severe sanctions on Russia which are still in place to this day and have done a wonderful job of decimating the previously recovering Russian economy. Although despite that the Russian still haven’t backed Down.

It’s also important to note that eastern Ukraine(Donbas) has a large Russian population and they’re currently waging war for independence from Ukraine. They’re being assisted by Russia who is providing funding and mercenaries. There are questions about whether the rebellion is legit or just another Russian plot.

But yeah this all got started because some Soviet leader wanted to do a “personal favour” for Ukraine. The constitutionality of the transfer is still debated.

1
mugatucrazypills 1 point ago +1 / -0

This started because after the cold war we made a point of going the extra mile and humiliating Russia in defeat. Ukraine is basically their historic sphere of influence and if the Ukrainians don't like it they should work out some power balance arrangement that balances with the economic power of the EUROPEAN cunts. Now my PBS listening gay aunt who works as an administrative assisant is earnestly explaining why I need to be willing to go to nuclear war and my family should be willing to be incinerated to make a stand for 95 percent Russian crimea against Russian rule. Because CIA media said so.

Crimea voted several times to separate from Ukraine. When the color revolution happened in Ukraine the rightfully elected president was overthrown. That would be the president that most of Crimea and East Ukraine voted for.

Only thing Russia did was help out people who were disenfranchised by yet another CIA driven color revolution.

1
Canlog96 1 point ago +1 / -0

Ah yes the CIA may have been involved in the coup. Of course they’d have to deny it even harder than usual since it would make their worst enemy at the time look like the good guy.

The problem is that secession is illegal in Ukraine but IMO that barely matters. Every nation and person that claims to support liberty and the right to self-determination should be in support of a people’s right to secede otherwise they’re hypothetical. The USA itself was a product of illegal secession. I don’t necessarily agree that secession is always a good thing but if the Crimeans were truly being oppressed by their newly installed semi-fascist government then I’d say they have a right to break free. They’d never make it on their own and most of them were Russian so Russia was the only logical choice.

Some claim the votes were not free and fair but 🤷. That’s a whole other issue.

1
iamherefortheluls 1 point ago +1 / -0

Some claim the votes were not free and fair but 🤷. That’s a whole other issue.

EU and NATO really shit on the referendum in Crimea in 2014.

They never mentioned that this was the third referendum that Crimea had to secede, in hopes of joining Russia.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1991_Crimean_sovereignty_referendum

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1994_Crimean_referendum

both times Kiev unilaterally denied because, you said, 'secession is illegal'

The voting in 2014 in Crimea was fair. People were scared shitless by the things they saw in Kiev. And they had good reason to be because the new Ukrainian government was pretty damn quick to roll into Donetsk with tanks after people there who overwhelmingly voted for the ousted president stood up and said they didn't agree with their elected government getting overthrown.

3
Canlog96 3 points ago +3 / -0

Oh yeah. Didn’t they invite international observers to oversee those referendums but they all refused and only a few fringe observers showed up? Kinda their fault there but I’m guessing it was intentional. If all the observers said the referendum was clean it would have taken away their ammo to hate Russia.

As we all know the media and many members of the left seem to be wanting an armed confrontation between Russia and the US over things like this. It’s disturbing.

I doubt they will ever let Ukraine into NATO, Russia wouldn't allow it anyway. Too close to it's ports in the Black Sea.

4
Smurfection 4 points ago +4 / -0

I agree with you, but for Joe Biden, as this point, when Ukraine is under siege from Russia economically and politically, to say Ukraine can't enter NATO is a great favor to Putin. It give Putin's claim on Ukraine legitimacy or at least, takes away a certain amount of Ukrainian independence on the world stage. Who will say Ukraine has a right to remain Ukraine and not be a vassal state of Russia now that Biden has basically said Ukraine is to corrupt to be taken seriously as a nation?

2
anonymousdonor 2 points ago +2 / -0

It'll be a vassal to globohomo if it joins NATO.

1
Smurfection 1 point ago +1 / -0

Honestly, the former eastern block states should make their own alliance because none of them are anything more than regional powers and they all are totally united in trying to keep Russia out of their respective nations. Without the U.S. military, NATO isn't worth anything anyway. The military of European NATO members states are basically relying on NATO to keep their own nations from completely disbanding their militaries entirely. Given how Democrats have acted the last twenty years, I've gone from being a hard core Reagan DEFENSE HAWK, to thinking it might be a good idea to completely dismantle the American military and do away with a standing army. And you have no idea how much I've sacrificed in the Cold War and the Global War on Terror. Don't get me wrong, it breaks my heart to say this about our own armed forces, but I just can't stand the corruption, the social engineering, the military contractors anymore. I just can't justify the moral rot throughout it all anymore. I just can't. I believe in a strong military but not a corrupt one.

1
anonymousdonor 1 point ago +1 / -0

Agreed with you on the rot and corruption. I see it every day. We have contractors doing the work soldiers should be doing and soldiers never doing their trained job. It's pathetic. I would much rather going back to the military we had prior to WW1.

1
Smurfection 1 point ago +1 / -0

I used to wonder a lot about that period of time in U.S. Military history because I am a fan of the Rough Riders and Theodore Roosevelt. I wondered how it could be that our military was that broken down before WWI especially after all the conflicts in Manifest Destiny after the Civil War. Now, I understand. The voters were angry and they did see the corruption in the military in the dealings with settlers and Native Americans. They didn't think of the westward ho! push the romantic way we think of it today. Rather they saw it as fight after fight after fight and saw the misery, the corruption of government treaty negotiators, the ponzi schemes, the casual lawlessness and knew the vigilantes were better at keeping the peace. I've always wondered why Americans tolerated that and now I know why. I saw a post yesterday that said "After the last ten years, I finally understand what happened in Europe, Russia and the whole world in the 20th century." I feel like I finally understand the early 20th century part.

1
anonymousdonor 1 point ago +1 / -0

Indeed, for an insight into how the public viewed the military then, look at the kind of men that enlisted. America was full of dirt poor farmers and the army was still accepting literal criminals to join. Local and state militias is where men of distinction served. The way the militia would vote for officers was straight out of the style of Roman legions.

Not to take away what the regular army soldiers did, they were given a task and they carried it out. They paved the west for settlement. But in a lot of places, like Texas, it was the local who were most effective against hostile indian tribes.

It sounds like he did. Also the NY Post reported that Russian Security roughed up some American Journalists right in front of Biden and he didn't say anything.

9
BigMikesSwingingCock 9 points ago +9 / -0

-”The nod from Biden happened as US reporters and Russian security got into a near-brawl before him Wednesday in the stately Villa de la Grange in Geneva. The shoving match drowned out most of Biden’s opening remarks and appeared to confuse the 46th president as he sat near Putin.”

For some reason, I can vividly picture the Russian security detail completely pummeling the fake news. And it’s glorious. Also it confused him?? What doesn’t confuse him?

The "meeting" consisted of Putin just listing off all the crimes of the US government (Bilderbergs), while Biden muttered to himself and occasionally said "C'mon man!".

1
FireannDireach 1 point ago +1 / -0

These public meetings are just dog and pony shows, anyway. The real negotiations and drama happens off stage - Biden has taken a major credibility hit here in the public's eye, but you know Putin knew exactly who he was dealing with months ago, and was prepared for the real power dealers running the WH to make their appeasement to him in diplomatic channels. They talk tough about Putin, but they always take a knee to him, because we as a country are in a position of utter weakness with this doddering old dementia patient as our figurehead.

I'm not team Putin, and I'm leery of him, but he's doing better than I would expect. He took a real shot with bringing up Ashli, but he's being very restrained in other comments. He knows he's got the upper hand, and his real fight is Germany and France and the globalists. It's more of an "enemy of my enemy" thing, and Putin/Russia's hands are not clean. But for now I'm aligned with them in their distaste and affront at having to take that old mummy shitbag seriously.

The talks are expected to address recent cyberattacks against the Colonial Pipeline, which caused US gas prices to spike as stations ran dry across the Southeast, and JBS Foods, a major meat processor, by criminals suspected of living in Russia.

So we are to trust our intelligence agencies, with vault 7 capabilities, that the recent cyber attacks were Russian?

Sorry, I'm not buying that

2
FireannDireach 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yeah, that's bullshit, we all know it's bullshit, if they were the culprits there, this would have already been a big issue in diplomatic channels with embassy staff being sent home and embassies closed. You don't bring shit like this up at a G7 meeting, it's inappropriate, diplomatically.

This whole thing is a farce. Biden is doing more damage than if he'd just not shown up. Joe is a shitheel, always has been, which is why Obama kept him off the world stage. I'm laughing at how offended and bewildered the other members of the G7 countries are at this spectacle, even though we're an utter laughingstock because of it.

I remember seeing the pictures of Clinton feeling up the Statue of Liberty in a German parade, and realizing how bad he made us look as a country. This is way worse. The only way it could be worse than Joe is sending that cackling whore to the world stage, which I dread seeing happen.

3
