Why are libertarians so incredibly retarded sometimes

219
Shwoogin 219 points ago +225 / -6

Libertarianism is just as idealistic as socialism. Both ideologies naively rely on the pure goodness of man, just from different angles, top-down vs bottom-up.

AmericanScholar373 124 points ago +124 / -0

If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary.

Not really. Its mostly that libertarians are pinko fellow travelers trying to trick patriots who want liberty into being politically weak.

8
logicallyevil 8 points ago +8 / -0

Correct

33
Nuny0 33 points ago +36 / -3

No, Socialists took over libertarianism. Thats why that cunt Jojo was all about BLM.

Libertarian socialism Libertarian socialism, also referred to as anarcho-socialism, anarchist socialism, free socialism, stateless socialism, socialist anarchism and socialist libertarianism, is an anti-authoritarian, anti-statist and libertarian political philosophy within the socialist movement which rejects the state socialist conception of socialism as a statist form where the state retains centralized control of the economy

11
throwawayicanremembe 11 points ago +11 / -0

Stateless socialism. That's funny.

4
ZhaoBaiDeng 4 points ago +4 / -0

This... they have been taken over by leftists. The sub on reddit is run by leftists too.

And not even left-libertarian, just straight leftists playing pretend. The shortcomings of libertarian tolerance allowed this.

As much as they don't want to, libertarians need active self defense vs stuff like this. I asked this question of an actual libt politician. Like what do you do when an ideology is like a virus and will destroy everything and rejects logic. They still think they can convince them with a good argument: Get a grip man, it's not working.

23
FireannDireach 23 points ago +24 / -1

Yep. My first introduction to libertarianism was through Robert Heinlein. It interested me, so I sought out actual Libertarians, in the 80's and 90's. What I found was a thin veneer of rational thought, and under that kooks and nut jobs all the way down.

I sadly realized what Heinlein espoused never existed, and never will. He was idealistic to an extreme.

11
prayinpede 11 points ago +11 / -0

I think he was a social libertarian. His political philosophy was basically our original republic but voting rights and political entrance was impeded by a requirement to first serve the country. In our original republic land ownership was required.

In starship troopers this form of government didnt arrive until after the sociologist and their ilk took over and the world fell in to chaos.

Sargon does a good breakdown of the book and movie on bitchute.

1
Backslash2099 1 point ago +1 / -0

I've watched that breakdown a couple times now just to understand it better, it's a good one.

3
Morokei 3 points ago +3 / -0

1

2
Morokei 2 points ago +2 / -0

I grok your despair

13
Snooptwo 13 points ago +13 / -0

Im libertarian on particular issues. I have libertarian ideals, and while I understand government has a necessary role to play, I still believe that is almost always rather lean towards libertarianism than the alternative. But Im certainly not stupid enough to believe that people in our society are even remotely intelligent or self sufficient enough to be able to live in a libertarian society, and it would likely devolve into an oligarchy much like it already has, albeit from the other direction.

deleted 70 points ago +71 / -1

DrCowboyPresident 50 points ago +51 / -1

Libertarianism can't work because it creates a power vacuum.

It's a political philosophy for people who want nothing to do with politics, so how could it ever succeed?

26
BasedTemplar 26 points ago +29 / -3

The only reason libertarianism was popular in the first place was apathy. Change my mind.

35
Chopblock 35 points ago +36 / -1

Laws that prevent censorship are qualitatively different than those that compel it. Free speech is a right and a principle.

Allowing men to compete in womens sports isnt a matter of individual choice or agency, its a matter where common rules must be agreed to by all parties (with government *already involved), and letting one party use nonsensical definitions undermines the entire purpose of womens sports.

Transgender surgeries on minors are unethical and barbaric. Libertarianism has never supported child abuse.

Tech deplatforming => GOTO 1

Critical Race theory - like #2, government is already involved in schools, (for worse). Teaching racism in schools is obviously a bad idea, it shouldnt need to be enforced by a governor in the first place but here we are

19
Correndo 19 points ago +19 / -0

Laws that prevent censorship are qualitatively different than those that compel it.

Absolutely. Most self-identified libertarians I talk to don't seem to understand this distinction.

0
GlockArm 0 points ago +1 / -1

Then you're talking to leftists playing pretend.

As a libertarian I understand we need laws to protect us from government tyranny. Not laws that protect government tyranny.

What does he think the constitution is? Would this "libertarian" call the bill of rights "authoritarian"? You're damn right he would!

Because he's a COMMIE. Not a libertarian. You guys fall for word games too easily.

11
n4freedom 11 points ago +11 / -0

This was my thinking on all of these topics and I'm generally more libertarian than anything else, but this guy is completely missing what's going on.

1
GlockArm 1 point ago +1 / -0

He's not missing anything. The libertarian party is a de-facto extension of the DNC that try to use broken logic to support communist authoritarianism.

1
n4freedom 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yes Ron Paul is a communist. Abolishing the IRS, fed, ATF department of education, and other unconstitutional agencies would totally usher in communism. The less power the federal government has the more communist and authoritarian it will be that makes all of the sense or something.

5
Destroya12 5 points ago +7 / -2

Its literally pacifism by another name.

4
koditxu 4 points ago +4 / -0

Pacifism is not something to hide behind.

1
GlockArm 1 point ago +1 / -0

Funny, when someone posts a controlled opposition shill it's pacifism by another name.

When a real libertarian tells you the only way you're getting out of a communist coup is to start shooting important people, you call him a glowie.

Hmm....

2
War_Hamster 2 points ago +2 / -0

It can work, but humanity is nowhere near ready for it yet.

5
logicallyevil 5 points ago +6 / -1

That's not real socialism...

That's exactly what this sounds like and exactly what it is. A pipe dream.

2
War_Hamster 2 points ago +3 / -1

That's exactly what I tell them.

The world is fully of crappy people. Fix that, and we can talk about utopian dreams.

1
GlockArm 1 point ago +1 / -0

So what is your solution exactly? To put those same imperfect people in control and over power of others? How is the world being full of crappy people a justification for centralized control? Now those crappy people have total control over people that aren't crappy, and no one who is crappy wants anything to do with the dirty system of politics.

Congradulations.

1
War_Hamster 1 point ago +1 / -0

My solution was drafted in 1787.

It's been undermined and under attack by crappy people ever since.

I want just enough government to keep those crappy people at bay, and not one smidgeon more. That requires non-crappy people to be a bit more vigilant, so we've got some work to do.

1
BatmanForTrump 1 point ago +1 / -0

This is so true

10
BurtMcGirt 10 points ago +13 / -3

Libertarianism just trades government overlords for corporate overlords who control the government.

6
n4freedom 6 points ago +6 / -0

That's corporatism and what we currently have. A tiny government has nothing to control, and tyrannical companies won't survive without government sponsorship.

7
ColonelHughes 7 points ago +7 / -0

What we are currently experiencing is a merging of state and corporate powers. Bennito musolini coined this ideology under those principles.

37
TippyTop1987 37 points ago +38 / -1

They arent. What you are witnessing is big L libertarianism that is being co-opted(and has been since the Koch brothers in the eighties) .

I can guarantee you that the vast majority of libertarians do not support the libertarian party for these very reasons. Libertarians do not support open borders in the sense that the Libertarian Party espouses.

18
IncensedThurible 18 points ago +18 / -0

Small L Libertarian here, I absolutely do not support the Libertarian Party because they're cucked as fuck.

Small government is the way to go, but it still needs to exist and it needs to be based on a philosophy of objective truth and a clear moral establishment of right and wrong. The LP are little more than anarchists.

2
Kaggzz 2 points ago +2 / -0

Other libertarian here. The LP is a joke and please don't judge libertarianism based on those dumbasses.

2
GlockArm 2 points ago +2 / -0

Literally no libertarians vote for LP.

Only hipster leftists.

1
Kaggzz 1 point ago +1 / -0

After hearing what's happening with the LP in New Hampshire of all places, for the first time in my life I'm interested in following the party only for the lulz

1
anotherthing 1 point ago +1 / -0

Libertarian here as well, but I recognize the agenda behind the shit that DeSantis banned. Liberty is something you have to actively enforce these days. If we'd been more vigilant about these things ten to twenty years ago, we wouldn't be in the mess we're in now.

1
CensoredCitizen 1 point ago +1 / -0

Modern libertarianism is a complete joke.

54
BigPanda71 54 points ago +54 / -0

Was reading an article on Reason today about a fed judge in SD trying to force US Matshals in his courtroom to prove vaccine status. More than a few comments on how vaccines should be mandatory and employers should be enforcing mandates.

Modern libertarianism is all about weed at this point.

17

i smoked a lot of weed but ron paul was never a libertarian. those guys always sucked

1
GlockArm 1 point ago +1 / -0

You're just gonna accept communists calling themselves libertarians like you did with communists calling themselves liberals then pat yourself on the back when you're plainly wrong about libertarians the vast majority of which does not vote for the controlled opposition party.

0
GlockArm 0 points ago +1 / -1

You're falling for propaganda. the LP is controlled opposition full of literal socialists.

This faggot would call the bill of rights "authoritarianism". He is not a libertarian.

54
TippyTop1987 54 points ago +54 / -0

Conservatism was born of classical liberalism aka libertarians. Official corporate Libertarian Party does not resemble the ideas of libertarianism and hasnt since the party decided to go the Koch brothers route instead of the Rothbard route in the eighties. Official Libertarian Party politics are rebranded globalist neoliberalism and neoconservatism, you have left wing libertarians whose idea of libertarianism is using the state apparatus to enforce its twisted interpretation and right wing libertarianism that is just globalist paleo conservatism. I would wager that classical liberals and conservatives of yesteryear would essentially share a majority of views.

21
HoneyBadgerInc 21 points ago +21 / -0

Holy shit, a well thought out and well articulated take down of modern libertarianism here. As someone who is in the personal battle between being historically libertarian, but waking up to the fact that libertarianism fails to adequately counter modern communist insurrection, I appreciate that your not just spouting "lolbertarians!!!! Hurr durr".

13
liveinliberty 13 points ago +13 / -0

Yeah, that's about where I am, now. I just want to be left alone, but these faggot Marxists are a plague and it's going to take a hard line to keep them at bay.

i have been a "classic liberal" for years... yet here i am

6
War_Hamster 6 points ago +6 / -0

2
koditxu 2 points ago +4 / -2

Rothbard was pro abortion. What right does a fetus have to live inside the body of a woman who doesnt want it? Its nothing more than a parasite. Yes, he argues exactly this in the Libertarian Manifesto. Just one of many examples of how its a philosophy completely devoid of morality. Also devoid of all pragmatism. Its a joke.

This isn't libertarianism. It's the libertarian party. A party full of bernie bros and socialists that would call the constitution and bill of rights (protections from the government) authoritarianism.

20
JohnCocktoastin 20 points ago +21 / -1

This guy is retarded. This isn't authoritarian. Allowing it to continue is authoritarian. I don't think there is any ban on trans sports. Its just forcing sports to accept trans that don't want to. CRT is banned because kids shouldn't be forced to listen to it. Tech deplatforming isn't a ban. It is simply a cost associated with a behavior. Trans surgery ban...I guess this guy is in favor of rescinding child abuse laws because we never should have banned child abuse...Nobody is require prayer, only that those who wish may partake. Fuckin dipshit. Logic is absent across the board in all realms these days.

17
militantnationalist6 17 points ago +17 / -0

I use to understand Libertarians but honestly they just annoy me now. It's exactly like a child like understanding of how the real world works, it's sad really.

20
HanginChad 20 points ago +20 / -0

Because some dude calls himself a libertarian doesn't mean he is. Liz Cheney and Mitt Romney call themselves conservatives.

5
militantnationalist6 5 points ago +5 / -0

Granted. But I was making my judgement call on what I have seen multiple libertarians say and promote over the years. And just like I want nothing to do with the conservatives you mentioned I dont want anything to do with libertarians either.

6
liveinliberty 6 points ago +6 / -0

I'm mostly libertarian and I think this Todd guy is a fucking idiot. He can't see the totalitarian threat his opinions are supporting.

2
krzyzowiec 2 points ago +2 / -0

I think youre on to something there. It strikes me as a movement of teens rebelling against their parents and rules in general.

So they obsess about theoretical stuff, weed, being allowed to go anywhere without restriction, being against cops who are keeping them down by enforcing tyranny, etc.

Eventually you just have to grow up.

1
GlockArm 1 point ago +1 / -0

eventually you just have to grow up

he said from a cell from going to jan 6th being held without trial

but cops never enforce tyranny of the government

1
krzyzowiec 1 point ago +1 / -0

Are police inherently tyrannical?

1
GlockArm 1 point ago +1 / -0

Sounds like a cop-out argument to me. You know they will be at the drop of a hat. "Just following orders".

Kneel for terrorists that burn your business down after arresting you for opening it.

Yeah, they're government lackeys who will do anything to you if they get "the order".

Hopefully karma doesn't come around to kick you in the back of the head like all those BLM retards that pretend cops are entirely the problem the same way you pretend cops are never the problem.

1
krzyzowiec 1 point ago +1 / -0

I never said the cops are never the problem. Dont pretend you know my opinion when you never asked.

1
GlockArm 1 point ago +1 / -0

Because this guy who is a pro-government socialist calls himself libertarian? This guy would decry the bill of rights as authoritarian when it's a protection FROM the government. Same as those other things he listed.

By your logic republicans are all bad because of RINO's.

10
Veylis 10 points ago +11 / -1

Libertarians believe in completely open borders. Theyre a joke.

11
liveinliberty 11 points ago +11 / -0

In an ideal world global open borders would mean freedom to leave and choose a government and society that you like. In this world, however, everyone would just flock to the wealthy countries and fuck everything up.

1
GlockArm 1 point ago +1 / -0

Who?

No, the libertarian party. That no real libertarian votes for does. The party full of pro-government shills and bernie-ass-licking socialists

IMO, Murray Rothbard was THE libertarian, and even he conceded that if the government is going to run something, like schools or the military, then the government aught to, at the very least, run it competently and correctly in accordance with the people's values.

Banning CRT isn't authoritarian. Public schools are authoritarian. Banning CRT is operating those public schools competently and correctly.

5
FreeNow 5 points ago +5 / -0

I think this is the point. Hey, if you want CRT taught, here is your school voucher, find a private school that teaches it. Oh, you want it in the public school? Then you have to win the election. The left wants the government to control everything, then when SOMEONE else is in control they complain about it.

2
GlockArm 2 points ago +2 / -0

Hey, you're catching on. You as a citizen have the right to tell the government to stop propagandizing your children to hate themselves and be self-desctructive. This isn't anti-libertarianism. This is libertararism.

This faggot would call the bill of rights "authoritarian". He is controlled opposition and actually a pro-big-government socialist.

7
Awakened 7 points ago +7 / -0

CRT is against everything a libertarian would believe. Same with the social media crap. Libertarians hate Facebook and crap like that. They think its evil. I know a bunch of libertarians. They just want to be left alone. This seems like a troll account.

3
liveinliberty 3 points ago +3 / -0

Let's look at these 1 by 1:

  • School prayer/Meditation requirement

I have no idea about this. Sounds silly, but whatever.

  • Tranagender sports ban

Protects women's right to have fair competition.

  • Transgender surgery ban

Protects children from being groomed/pushed into something they'll regret for the rest of their life.

  • Tech deplatforming ban

Protects the right of free speech and literally fights authoritarianism.

  • Critical race theory ban

Besides the usual points about CRT, this essentially protects the right to freedom of religion. CRT is very much religious in nature. If schools and the government started pushing Christianity on people, I'm sure this guy would celebrate a governor banning that. This is the same thing.

2
Unicron3 2 points ago +2 / -0

I'm a pretty hands off kind of guy. What I want a government for is make and preserve infrastructure and stop people from hurting other people. Those "bans" he lists are things that are stopping people from hurting innocent people.
