This is actually illegal. It is extortion.

18 U.S. Code § 875 - Interstate communications

(d)Whoever, with intent to extort from any person, firm, association, or corporation, any money or other thing of value, transmits in interstate or foreign commerce any communication containing any threat to injure the property or reputation of the addressee or of another or the reputation of a deceased person or any threat to accuse the addressee or any other person of a crime, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both.

Texts/calls/emails are all "interstate commerce" regardless if the sender and recipient remain within the same state. "other thing of value" is going to be this guy's story. This is a felony. Couldn't be a more clear cut case of a violation of this federal statute. This reporter should be immediately charged.

Can the Florida attorney general prosecute this journalist since the crime happened to a Florida policitican?

I just political hitman. And we need to push back. We need to start targeting the journalists. Stop complaining about their bias and start going after them

Politically Legally and physically.

Start filing charges against them and I want to protest her outside the houses of these journalists all the time. Bang on their doors like they banged on Tucker Carlson's

Would not be surprised if there were a Florida statute for this.

You aren't really doing your due diligence unless you also taste the rectal swaps for covid. If it tastes normal, you are okay, but if it doesn't taste like it usually does, you might need to wear a few more masks.

We can do something ourselves at least we in who live in: Oklahoma, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Nevada, and Kansas.

Go read this:

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia ruled in the landmark case of United States v. Williams, 112 S. Ct. 1735, 504 U.S. 36, 118 L. Ed. 2d 352 (1992),

6
PosterIsDead 6 points ago +6 / -0

Wait . . . chickens have teeth?

3
Highspergamy 3 points ago +3 / -0

Oh yeah, lots and lots of them. Enough to bankrupt the tooth fairy.

Want to hear some inside baseball? The word is the federal government back in 1913 made what seemed like a real good deal to uh, really come up in the world. You know. Hang with the big boys. One of the very reasonable seeming stipulations was that the US federal government would underwrite operation toothfairy in perpetuity. Well old Woodrow Wilson it turns out, he didn't know about chicken's teeth either! Eh heh eh heh. I don't know nothing of course. How could I? But sometimes when I hear how the Pentagon can't account for a few trillion dollars every decade or so, I wonder how many tooth allotments that would cover. I'd like to figure that out someday, I'm a very mundanely curious man.

Some of the old-timers say the country won't ever be right until we elect Col. Sanders President Of The United States, or at least someone who embodies the spirit of Sanders, knows the secrets of the special blend of herbs and spices. Now it's clear as day that wackadoodle Bernie Sanders is nothing like the old Col., but to be so near having someone called Sanders, even purely incidentally, sitting at the resolute desk made some more than a wee bit uncomfortable. Oh believe me, behind the scenes there was quite a bit of squawkin'. "What is his game?" "Why would an old man do this?" "Who do you suppose has been egging him on?" How can a man too old to be their
grandfather have such appeal to the youth, is he just preying on their tender feelings? It's like he never doubted it though, he seems so cocksure."

Did you find it odd that old bird Mrs. HamRod Clinton cheated the geezer plain as day and the next week he had joined her flying around on her jet endorsing her across the country. It's like his fight and will just flew the coop.

Gahhh, there I go again trying to put

a more sexy and mysterious veneer on my addiction to puns, double entendre, and dad jokes.

You did not read the entire statute

(e) Above rules do not apply to Democrats or their operatives and it shall be considered an affirmative defense in all such cases

31
JohnCocktoastin 31 points ago +31 / -0

Pretty much...

This statute is rarely prosecuted under (d) but it is often prosecuted under the kidnapping/ransom sections (a) & (b)...most people don't even know (d) exists. The stupid FBI agent we sent a referral to tried to tell us that they actually had to succeed in the extortion to violate the statute...critical reading is not a strong suit of these morons. He had to consult with the US attorney...I'm betting he didn't.

Years ago my boss and I were having a meeting discussing marketing with a potential new client who wanted to try to compete with Omaha Steaks. Yeah, another one of those, "I'm going to compete with an established brand, but do it better and beat them at their own game" schemes. We didn't know that going in, but figured it out quickly, so we humored him.

At one point he started discussing the type of refined person he wanted to market to and the first thing he said was, "The type of people who read Mother Jones,..." at which point my boss said, "OK...we're done here." I was thinking the same thing at that point. We were talking about it later on and he noted that anyone who wants to deal with people who read Mother Jones is someone you don't even want in your life.

4
FireannDireach 4 points ago +4 / -0

The kind of people I've known who read Mother Jones are 60, wear Birkenstocks with wool socks in the summer, drives Volvos at 10 mph down Berkeley streets, and their Volvo is covered in stickers with dumb shit like "world peace", "Clinton", "Gore", "Hillary!", and pot symbols.

The WW2, Korean and Vietnam wars culled the strong men from the population, leaving the weakest to rule, and breed and educate the next generation.

Well, kids, now you see how this nation has been run for the last several decades (at least:) through extortion, threats, and blackmail.

It would not surprise me if most members of Congress, more than a few on the SCOTUS, and anybody at Faux News who used to be a Trump supporter has gotten exactly the same treatment.

Good on Matt for standing up to this and I sure hope he's got some good friends close at hand. The reptiles really don't like it when somebody finally stands up to them.

Why can’t these people be convinced to commit suicide?

They don't actually have the courage for that sort of thing.

Republicans need to learn to stand together and not abandon each other when left starts attacking. It’s why they lost last election, from cowardice.

Wow that reporter is a lunatic. 7 years ago he wrote articles about Shia Labeouf being an MKUltra victim along with Rosanne Barr and Michael Jackson.. Nazi's running the CIA, to Obamas use of data to win the election...

to becoming a climate change nut, vegetarian, china shill, writing many articles about breitbart, UFOs, vaccines, nuclear waste bacteria in vaccines, alien bacteria for vaccines... hit pieces on Project Veritas

Fight back and get that reporter fired and prosecuted to the fullest extent. Don't have cheap mercy because they never had mercy on us.

I am at the point where this needs to be handled publicly. Either with a rope or shave their hair/parade them through town like the French.

"He’s a problem for the Democratic Party because he’s so conservative."

So, the other Republicans aren't a problem because they aren't as conservative? Uniparty confirmed.

I suspect operating as a smear campaign is one of the only ways to make money in the news industry anymore. Or rather the only way to maximize profit for the least amount of actual work.

This is how they can drive people to suicide. This should be ILLEGAL

I will give a shit when Matt presses charges. Looks like clear harassment at best and extortion and much worse worst case. Is there any legit law enforcement officials left here? Come on folks.

These fuckers deserve to be completely ostracized from society. Throw them on an island and leave them there

Mathew Phelan needs to do squat thrusts on a large cactus.

'Mother Jones'

that explains everything.

I would think this would blow the door open for some slam dunk libel cases.

If you're a public figure for libel you have to prove intent.

Well, threatening to release a negative, bullshit story about someone is definitely intent.

It sounds like they have taken all the Adsm Schif stories and replaced the name.

Sounds like that reporter needs an ass kicking.

Better report this unhinged activity to the FBI!
