In your hands, Oh Lord,
we humbly entrust our brothers and sisters.
In this life you embraced them with your tender love;
deliver them now from every evil
and bid them eternal rest.

So sorry to hear that fren.

For a Vietnam Vet, the 1980's woodland camouflage pattern BDU tells me he was a career solider.

Rest, Sir.

EllemenoP [S] 26 points ago +27 / -1

Yep! Since 1968.

17
TraitorJoes 17 points ago +18 / -1

I just notices the time stamp. That's 30+ years!

22
EllemenoP [S] 22 points ago +23 / -1

Yeah, he checked out as a white haired curmudgeon, lol. He's been Army since he was 17. He had a stroke while awaiting deployment under buttwipe Obama.

Born 1947, died 2021.

Anybody with a little knowledge of history, knows 1968 was not a good year to be in Vietnam.

Then to go career?

Your dad was one tough SOB.

Physically and mentally.

9
EllemenoP [S] 9 points ago +9 / -0

It wasn't always easy, but his faith kept him centered and hopeful.

6
inspir3dgenius 6 points ago +6 / -0

Your dad is with the Father now. His mission is complete.

airborne3502 5 points ago +5 / -0

Not too many atheists in foxholes.

No doubt he's in the big patrol base in the sky.

You'll see him again.

1968 was deadly for my two cousins, both killed in January within a week of each other. One in Thua Tien, the other in Quang Tri.

A very bad time for my family, being informed of one death while in the midst of burying the other.

4
airborne3502 4 points ago +4 / -0

What a tremendous loss.

I'm sorry your family paid such a high price.

Not sure how close I was to them when I visited the Vietnam Memorial, but I will always stand with my veteran brothers here and in the hereafter.

2
beachbirdie 2 points ago +2 / -0

Bless you for that. I hold you all in high esteem who have served. Checking your name...my son was 101st. Currahee!

I am so sorry for your loss. My father has been such an important figure in my life. I am forever grateful for his wisdom, and I am so thankful I still have my father around. Enjoy every single moment you have with your family, you never know when your time might come. RIP 🙏

It gets easier, but it'll never be OK.

My father was 82nd airborne, 2 tours. His flag is proudly displayed w his medals in our living room.

I'm sorry for your pain. We are all with you, and your father. You have my condolences and he has my respect.

sending you prayers for strength and heart peace, pede. it's very important to take care of you right now: hydrate, rest, sleep when you can, get outside (!!!), let people help you/take care of you and know that whatever you're feeling today, next week and throughout the next year is ok. talk about your daddy and encourage others to share their stories. i heard some of the loveliest little secrets and funny stories about my sister and it meant the world to hear them. also, it's ok to laugh; it's also ok to be a lil dark and twisty. God bless, hon.

Sorry to hear that your father has passed. My Dad passed right after Father's Day in 1978. He was 73 at the time. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. Your Dad is with our Lord in Heaven today.

By the way, my brother was a Vietnam vet...U.S. Army - 25th Infantry Division - Cu Chi '66-'67. He died way too young at the age of 51.

Always a sad day when a fellow veteran passes. Play TAPS for the American Hero and remember, God loves vets.

RIP and bless him.

he killed commies (or helped his fellow soldiers kill commies) during the war. no shame in killing commies during the vietnam (or korean) war.

The 101 cadences were always the best (i can tell you more if wanted). Condolences, kind sir, but at least he didn't have to see the shitstorm happening now. He would have felt it was all in vain.

As a son, this is your duty. The greatest pain a father can bear, is burying a son. You have spared your father that pain. Celebrate his life and be proud, he is proud of you!
