It's about 3 grand total. When you know what you're doing it's not so bad. It's when you have to hire guys like us it gets REALLY expensive.

I fell head over heals for the trades since I took my first shop class in Junior high, (2000) dropped out of HS first day Freshman Year. Within a two months I got my GED Took my ACT, got a 26. Father told me either School or work. I chose my trade at 14 and apprenticed framing carpenters til 17&1/2. Housing market collapsed the industry for an up and comer but couldn’t find the work. Enlisted in the Army Infantry (11B Airborne [Wanted the option 40]). Couple deployments and some foreign travel experiences with a newly learned language for a decade+. Got out and restarted my opportunity as Finish carpenter. Greene and Greene style Architecture is my passion and love. Currently working on my personal house now.

It is so.

Not knowing how to actually do useful things is rotting so many brains.

There is a reason children play using their hands.

The hands and the brain are intimately connected. People who know how to DO something are more mentally organized.

And that includes cooking, ladies. Men respect craft. They know about that. They are the sex that is expected to use their hands. Well. Sometimes.

Pre-staining the trusses and purlins/blocking? If so, way to think ahead :)

BTW got to use one of those towable lifts recently after years of standard man lift use. Was impressed.

PS: happy Father’s Day to you all

Yeah the manlift and the bobcat (not pictured) were two of the best buys we ever made.

Much respect to whomever framed the base floor. Those are some fancy miter cuts.

The old man himself. He's been woodworking for near 70 years and shows no sign of slowing down.

No no no. You don’t understand. America was built by diversity studies professors.

I left the gay African slaves we had shipped in for the day out of frame. Figured it would be in poor taste.

Didn't realize you were all millionaires, buying that much wood.

If you can hunt, fish, grow food, and build, you can save tons of money.

Trade school homestead style. Love it! I was working in the fields by the time I was 9. There isn’t a day that goes by where I am not grateful for being raised by a grandfather who grew up in the Great Depression. He did not raise a soft man

Spent the morning yesterday working on a larger rabbit hutch. Been using recycled wood from a neighbor's dog kennel. There's a sense of accomplishment you can only get from building something with your own hands.

I had my kids out helping me paint the house. We've been doin it slowly for about 3 months, just hear and there. Will paint my whole house (3500 sq ft) for under $1000. Teaching kids to do things themselves saves a lot of money!
